I have 3 young adult (not quite a year old) roosters I would love to find a home for! They are a cross between a Buff O. rooster and Barred Rock hens. I don't have any pictures currently, but other posts on BYC have pictures that show what they look like! I will take some for an interested...
I have 5 Barred Rock/Buff Orpinton cockerals. One is about 3 months, one is about 7 weeks and the other 3 are about 3 weeks old. Mom is a Barred Rock and Dad is a Buff Orpington. As adults they look mostly like Barred Rock. They have all been acclimated to the outdoors and have done some...
I had a Barred Rock hen attacked by something in her coop 2 years ago. She was in such bad shape that both her eyes were swollen shut and she had a horrific penetrating wound under one wing. I was going to have my husband "take care of her", but after bringing her into the house to keep her...
Welcome from Massachusetts! As another option for your meat scraps...You might be quite surprised at how many people would be interested in your scraps that feed a raw diet to their dogs! Many people would actually pay YOU for some of it! Just something to think about!
I am interested as well...We just lost our 4 month old BO cockerel last week and hoping to add another one to the flock (just about the same age)...Not sure how to procede with a new roo...
My wonderful 4 month old Buff Orpington Cockeral, Lenny, was taken by a fox this morning right out of my front yard! It was 10:30 and they had been out of their coop about 20 minutes...I heard them making noise, looked out, and saw the tradgedy occur...By the time I ran out the front door he...
I have wondered this too...My chickens are able to differentiate between dogs they know and dogs they don't...They do not mind my dogs at all, they walk right through the yard. However, if we have people over with thier dogs, even the same breed, that look very much alike (Vizslas) they take...
Welcome!
I am a relative newbie as well, from western MA on the VT/NH border...We have Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, one Splash Orpington and 3 Buff Silkies. We also have 3 Vizslas, 3 Russian Tortoises and random game birds from time to time!
Thanks everyone! Glad to know I am not the only one who thinks chickens are fabulous! I just love looking out my window and seeing them wandering the yard, a form of therapy, really! (my husband thinks I'm nuts!)

I actually just wanted a couple slightly older Silkie chicks, so I ordered them from someone on here yesterday...I am hoping to hatch my own next year. (I hatched my own this past spring) It will depend on whether I have a rooster from my hatch this year!

Hi, I am also from western MA, although closer to north central (Northfield), but still considered "western". ;-)
I just joined this forum yesterday but have had chickens for a while. This past year I hatched eggs to expand my flock and had a great time with it, it was nice knowing where the...
I just joined today and live in Northfield, MA. If anyone is nearby drop me a note!
We have 5 Buff Orpingtons, 1 Splash Orpington and 3 Barred Rock... Love them all!
I am looking for a pet quality Buff Silkie(s). We had one that was my 4 year old daughters pet that we sadly lost yesterday and her little heart is broken!
Must be docile and able to be handled by a very gentle child! If shipping is available that would be the best way, as I am on bedrest...
Hi all! I live in western MA with my husband, 4 year old daughter, 3 Vizslas, 3 Russian Tortoises and a small flock of chickens. (3 Barred Rock, 5 BO and 1 splash BO)
I found this list 1 1/2 years ago when one of my Barred Rocks was attacked by a weasel and almost killed. The info I found...
