Welcome to my BYC Page! and Happy Summer
We live in the San Francisco East Bay Area. I have been married to my loving husband Devin for 6 years and we have a 28 month old daugther, Gwenyth Sophia.
We recently got 6 pullets all different breeds: Rhode Island Red, Easter Egger, Plymouth Rock...
Finally all of my chickens are laying.... my 34 week old EE decided to join the flock and give us some gorgeous olive green eggs!!!!!!!!!!!
1-Blanca = Plymouth rock white
2-Gertrude= Easter Egger
3-Fluffy= Light brahma
4-Valery= California white
5-Henrietta= Rhode Island Red
I had the same problem when they were stablishing they're pecking order.
The only thing the worked was:
Salt in their water and putting pine tar to hide the blood. Pine tar is antiseptic, so it will keep the wound clean.
1-The Wisconsin Experiment Station developed a "salt cure" in 1942 that...

Thank you for you comment. I had no idea what "internal layer" was. At least I know what could have gone wrong. And no roosters in my flock (not the neighbor's favorite)
My 33 week old silver laced wyandotte "Reina" died on Tuesday. Sad
I am trying to figure out why???
This is how Reina was:
She has always being the loner of the flock.
Never liked me to touch her.
She was not a big eater, when I would bring treats, she was the last one to show up and would...

The RIR are VERY good layers and sweet. She's been laying since she was...

Hey!!! You know....if the tarp is a good strong one, you could fill up the pool table "pit" with about 2-3 inches of sand. Bet they would love having an indoor sand pit to roll around in (and easy to clean out any "accidents")...
Awesome idea... we'll try that for sure!

Thanks! Yeah, we're putting some blocks as a base. I put fresh wood shavings everyday. My chickens like to toss them out when they're getting comfortable
Hello!
Actually, not a single racoon so far. We have never seeing one around our home in the 5 years we've been here. Hopefully they will be safe. We do close the windows and door at night.
Yeah... they are sure spoiled. We let them free range during the day. They love eating the bugs and greens around the yard. They ate all of my lettuce while I was gone for a few days!!!
We covered the pool table with a tarp and wood shavings to let them get higher if they want. I'm working on getting a roost area and a better base for the buckets.
I have buckets as nesting boxes...
Here is a video of the chickens:
Thank you everyone. When I got her, I was told she was an ameraucana.
Little did I know that she was an EE.
She is 25 weeks and hopefully will start laying soon!
