how much feed per chicken per day??

Wow everyone seems to feed their hens so much. I buy 20KG of mixed corn every month or two. I give my dozen hens a few handfulls of mixed corn in the morning, sometimes a hand full of layers pellets but I only get this in 2KG bags every now and them. They free range all day in a large garden. In...

Help me! Baby chick pecked and injured leg.

I've seperated all the hens and chicks. They were fine for 3 days and the chicks were mingling with one another. Maybe one of the hens tried to steal a chick away from the other? The pecked chick is still breathing.

3 day old chick pecked and twisted leg

I posted this in the raising chicks forum, I did not realise there was an Emergencies forum, hopefully someone can advise me on the below: Two of my hens with chicks were flighting earlier, one of the hens pecked a chick and had it in its mouth, I ran out and stranged the hen to release the...

Help me! Baby chick pecked and injured leg.

Two of my hens with chicks were flighting earlier, one of the hens pecked a chick and had it in its mouth, I ran out and stranged the hen to release the chick. I picked up the chick and it started bleeding all over my hands, I took it inside and put it in a box with a heat lamp and saw dust. I...

All 11 of my chicks are doing fine running around outside with their mothers. I'm doing better with these chicks than ones kept in a brooder. I say 'I', really I mean the hens are doing better than me and their chicks are running about in the mud at 20c with a cold wind blowing through and...

Hey iamcuriositycat, glad to hear you're having so much success, real cute pictures! I look forward to seeing them all fluffed up huddled together. They look so much 'tougher' than baby chicks which look 'breakable'. What breeds are your ducklings?

Hey iamcuriositycat, I can't wait to see your little ducklings! I live next to a river so I see lots of baby ducks, geese and swans but I can never get a close up view because of the protective mothers. Do you plan to handle them a lot so they become friendly adults?

It's day 23 for me and my broody hens have given up on the unhatched eggs. I tried listening to them but nothing... Oh well 11 out of 20 is not so bad. Here's some pics for you all of my day/2 day old chicks. Here is one hen who had 3 chicks hatch. They haven't ventured outside yet as far as I...

Well, 9/19 have hatched! I have 4 broody hens now! One hen has 6 chicks but I missed my chance to take a good picture, will take one tomorrow. Another hen has 2, one is still fluffing up but here are some pictures of the fluffed up chick. This hen doesn't mind me handling her chicks at all she's...

Got 6/19 out and fluffing up! One died while hatching, took it out of the shell to make sure. I hear lots more pipping! I have a 4th broody hen now! Will have to find her some eggs. My goal is 12/19 left. Will post some pictures later tonight. Great to see other people having some success this...

Who else was on lockdown 9/5-9/9? (Post your Hatch Round-ups!)

I thought this thread needed a picture. This is one of my speckled sussex I believe(correct me if I'm wrong) at 20 days pipping out its shell. It's cherping away along with some other eggs. You can just see its beak poking out! I'm trying not to handle them too much... Just picked up 20KG of...

I'm on day 20 with 20 eggs, 5 speckled wyandottes and 15 speckled sussex. I have 6 in an incubator of which 4 are pipping!. The rest are under 3 broody hens and I don't want to disturb them much although I know at least one is pipping. It will be interesting to see who is most successful, me...

Hello my fellow poultry enthusiasts and poultrymen. Following the standard template... I got my first chickens about a decade ago, 2 light sussex hens and a light sussex cock. I have 12 hens right now, a mixture of breeds(Rhode Island Reds, Light Sussex, hybrids) with 5 speckled wyandotte and...
