If you are into making a 4 way cross you might want to keep those blue leggers for your dame line.
They are still half CX and might probably lay better than the bigger birds.
Being 50% CX they will still probably lend that trait. CX lay pretty good and so do Bresse which makes me think it...
It scatters in the F2 generation but by selective breeding you find what you are looking for if possible and keep working birds with traits you are looking for. Each generation will bring you closer to your goal if you select properly.
Ok, what a rodeo this turned out to be. I left my CX rooster in with 4 NH hens and my last CX hen and he mounted CX so many times in a 24 hour time frame that i had to hospitalize her.
It took a while for her to heal up. Now i keep a saddle on her and only let him in with her once a week.
I...
Finally seeing my 2 year old CX rooster mounting my 2 year old CX hen! Woohoo! Its finally his turn and he wasted little time. First hen i saw him hit was that CX hen but he hit a couple NHs too.
This might work out much better than i was thinking. He lined up pretty good too. Im proud of the...
I just recouped today. Put 4 NH hens and 1 CX hen in with him.
About 20 minutes later i watched my 2 year old CX rooster mount my 2 year old CX hen. Im pretty geeked.
To me their NH's are a good choice because they are not a hybrid like FR, they breed true so you can hatch raise, breed your own. Thats going to be huge in the near future
These are not the best laying birds. Their website says 180 and i honestly feel the average is less. Its definitely something to consider but i fine with keeping extra hens to get more eggs. These are closest to the size of CX ive found. The bigger hens lay less eggs but they are quite valuable...
You can raise cornish cross healthy straight to the freezer. Dont give them full time access to 24% protein feed after 3 to 4 weeks.
After that make them forage by giving them enough feed to eat in 10 minutes. Increase feed slowly by giving them a little more time to feed. Throw a little low...
Update:
There are two New Hampshires, 1 American Bresse, and 1 BHxCX. Im gonna go out on a limb and say the big NHxCX there is a cockerel. His crop is full and the heat he gives off is crazy.
Oh yeah these birds are 8 to 10 days old and yeah the big dude hatched first so he is 2 days older but...
I am using my biggest best shaped Henry Noll New Hampshires on CX hens right now. Actually im down to one hen but she keeps laying. Its not easy keeping them and the story of how i just lost my last one is semi horrific so ill keep it at that.
BUT....
On a brighter note im getting some very...
