In OKlahoma, we had some very low temps, so I brought the chickens into the garage. I made a 10 x 4 chicken pen for them, put shavings down, water and food.
I only have 3 left of my flock of six from the last year. I have two French black copper marans who just started laying. I am getting one...
I have a mystery, I have various sized holes in my chicken yard, from 1 inch up to about 3 inches in size. No mound of dirt around them, such as a rodent digging to make the hole. I have seen mice scurrying when I come out to close the chicks in, but they certainly don't make that big of hole...
My Black Copper Maran chicks are 11 weeks old.. They have been introduced to my two older chickens with war from the older ones, so I have them living separated in the same yard. My question is: I had heard that if a chick has her tail down that it is a rooster. One of mine keeps its tail down...
I have bought from TSC several times, and about 3 months ago ordered from Hoovers for direct shipment to me. I ordered a straight run of 10 French Black Coockoo Marans, got 8 cockrals and 2 hens.
I'll never buy straight runs again. Ordered from a hatchery, 10 -1 day old baby chicks, Arrived in 4 days, out of 10 chicks one died in 2 days.. waited for them to grow and show the "males". At 4 weeks I could see that I had at least 5 roos, gave them away. Left me with 4 chicks, as they grew I...
We went through the raccoon thing this last week. A family of coons started one night and killed two of my birds, pulling their intestines out. We trapped and caught a total of 5 coons over the next 4 nights. We put hardware cloth over any openings we could find, and they still came through...
Last night while putting up a solar light in the coop, I saw a wasp nest on the ceiling. Does anyone have any ideas of how to get rid of it? The wasps were flying around me at the time, although none stung me.
I was cleaning the coop out today and when I moved a cinder block (used to hold waterer), a mouse ran out of it. I had seen a mouse in the run about a week ago, but this is the first time I have noticed one in the coop. How is the best method of getting rid of mice?
