Lemon cuckoo Roo x Lavender Hen

Thank you Frazzemrat! I'm so confused by the coloration genetics. I've tried researching, I kind of understand recessive genes and having to have two copies...but how it applies when crossing with something else? I was getting lost! So, yes, thank you!

Hi Courtney! I know this was a long time ago, but I have a hen displaying the same symptoms. Could you tell me what happened and if you discovered what the problem was? Anything to go on would be great!!! Thank you!

I have two Australorps. They seem to be skittish despite being handled when young (all my other girls eat from my hand). They also don't seem to venture far while the rest of my flock is out in the pasture, they stick together up close to the chicken coop. They are good layers and have a nice...

Who uses Nutrena Nature wise Layer feed?

I bought a bag of Nutrena Nature Wise Layer feed because the feed store I was at didn't have my regular Purina Layena Plus. The Nutrena had a very strong odor when I opened it. I Googled it and saw information on other posts where the company said it was normal to have a strong odor. Over the...

I love my Ameraucana. I see it says here that they lay medium eggs but I have been getting large and one in particular lays an extra large egg and typically they lay every day. I just hatched out 7 Lavendars (self blue), hoping I have mostly hens but at least one rooster. They are the most...

    Broody hens and fertile eggs

Any idea how to move them to a different location and not disrupt the broodiness? They are nesting in apparently "the two best nesting boxes" and are causing my other girls grief!

    Broody hens and fertile eggs

I'm so excited now! I feel a little bad because they are Ameracuana eggs going under a couple Banty hens, but those banties sure make good mommas! My Ameracuana never go broody.....

    Broody hens and fertile eggs

Does anyone know how long I have to stick fertile eggs under two hens that just went broody? They've been broody for two days now and I have no roosters but I'd like to stick some fertile eggs under them. They are keeping golf balls warm right now.

    Mislead by organic label?

Well to my understanding, technically, to be organic your property cannot even have treated lumber in the ground. So it isn't just fertilizers and such, there is way more than just feed and wandering the pasture to be able to use the term organic.
