We noticed about a week ago this girls comb had a piece missing and a bit of blood. We sprayed some vet Vetericyn, a couple days ago a bit more and today it looks like this. Any ideas what it is and how we can treat it? She seems to be eating, drinking and interacting as normal.
I recently got a sample pack of green goo products. I see 1 of the items is a wash for chickens which is Castile soap. I’m assuming that Castile soap is safe for chickens but what are your thoughts on using it to lightly bath your flock? If it works I’d rather buy a less expensive version of...
3 if our girls are about 5-6 years old. I’ve notice that they seem to be getting a bit “pecky” towards the rest of the flock which are all about a year old. I’m just curious as chickens mature do they get a bit more aggressive? 1 of the 3 in particular I actually saw her jump on the back of...
Interesting. Since I have never bred chicks before, is the rule of thumb the egg color primarily comes from the rooster? If she is part EE, she has no tint to her egg as far as a blue or green.
So we got a new egg today (I can tell by it’s size). It has to be from one of our FBCM however I’m questioning the color. I think I expected it to be a touch darker. Our girl Gamora laid this egg (I think) and she’s not even 5 months old. I have 2 other girls her age but 1 is an OE so I know...
Hello fellow long islander’s. Does anyone know what is needed or our to get a homesteading permit or small farm business permit in Brookhaven? I’m looking to research to possibilities turning our little hobby into a small business. TIA
Sorry forgot to add the part about the water. I mix the fruit with water so it’s fruit and fill the rest of the container with water. Cover and freeze. When it’s ready I put it out on a hot day and the peck at the ice.
In the summer I make ice rings with fruit or veggies. I also cut a watermelon in 1/2 and throw it in the run. They love all of it. In the winter I give them hot oatmeal with fruit.
I’m so excited. We finally have our black copper Marans and getting closer to laying age. This is the one breed I couldn’t wait to get. My girls on their swing.
One of my girls has lost a lot of feathers and doesn’t appear to be growing them back. She lost them about 2 months ago. I thought it was her first molt because she is a little over 1 year old. Then I thought it was a hard molt but now I’m questioning it. She has recently been spending more time...
One of our girls tends to lay eggs that are larger than a jumbo sized egg. The egg on the left is regular size the one on the right is the dinosaur egg. Is that large of an egg normal?
We have various size logs, thick branches, an old ladder from a swing set, a few tires, stuff like that. They love to climb and roost. Once in a while we hang a head of cabbage in their run and they love it. They peck at it all day and keeps them busy. Today I am trying something new. Small...
I see that the new app is available for iOS 11 and I’m thrilled. My question is there used to be a back button that allowed you to go to the prior screen you were on. Now you have re search each time. Is that going to be fixed?
Thank you
The coop is about 8x8 maybe a little bigger. Our run is 24x24. We plan on covering part of the run so the can go out and hopefully don't have to deal with the elements as much.
As for the males, yes we rejoined them.
And the broody, we have done some research and have an idea on how we are...
