I did see some of his birds but I didn't ask what lines they're from. I really only wanted them for their beauty, I don't want to breed them, so I didn't ask any questions. When he pulled out the cuckoo Maran in the first picture, he said he wasn't 100% certain it was a Maran because it had a...
I am so excited, I feel like I just hit the jackpot. I bought 6 chicks from a local guy and couldn't be more in love. They are supposed to be 1 Blue Cochin, 2 Blue Splash Cochins, 2 Lemon Cuckoo Marans and 1 Jubilee Orpington. He had them all mixed together in the same brooder and I told him...
Thank you! This is exactly the info I was looking for and was almost certain of. Since I figured this would be the case, I'm thinking I will hatch the silkies first since they are a smaller bird and will be easier to integrate the new chicks with them a few weeks later.
I'm planning on buying a Brinsea Maxi II advance this week and have found a couple of local breeders to buy eggs from (2 different breeders, about an hour away). The breeds I was going to start with are silkies, Polish, and Americaunas. I've never hatched eggs before, and the silkies and Easter...
In the first picture, the one standing in the back (and the cute little bum in front) looks like a Millie Fleur D'Uccle, as does the guy in front (yes, Roo) in the second pic.
that is how I tell mine apart. I have two Pekin ducks and know which is the male and which is the female by their quacks. I also have two little Rouens that are both boys. Again, since they're not fully feathered but are quacking, I tell by the quacks.
I could tell at three weeks because all of a sudden my little guy was sporting a red comb bigger than the six week old girls had. With how dark that is, I'd say boy. My seven week old girls' combs are barely pink if there's color to them at all, definitely not red.
From everything I've read on light brahmas, skilled eyes can tell from about 3 days to two weeks, then it may take months To figure it out as they can look extremely similar.
Oh good! I'm so glad to hear that I finally have one breed that is mostly pullets! I was very hopeful that was the case when my little Roo became so distinguishable early on that the rest would be pullets. I also have two 7 week old porcelains that's I am convinced our pullets because they...
Any guesses on gender? I'm leaning towards all pullets but one, but that may be my wishful thinking and naïveté.
Here is the one I believe is a cockeral, and I could tell at 2 weeks. He had more of a comb then than the others do now, plus he's three weeks younger! He is currently 4 weeks old...
