What colour is my silkie roo?

Can anyone tell me what colour these roos of mine are? I haven’t seen these colours before. I’m thinking the first one (black and grey) is a silver birchen but then I heard that’s technically not a silkie colouring. The 2nd one has black, grey and brown kind of splotched all over him. We

    Membranes drying out

Only day 20. Some pipped yesterday, some today. Most today but. I have peeled away a little egg and dampened the membrane with a damp paper towel and now they’re sitting on the paper towel back in the incubator. Looking nice and white again but I get the feeling they are quite think membranes...

    Membranes drying out

Help please!? I’m in the middle of a hatch, 3 healthy babies so far and 1 sadly didn’t make it (no clear reason why). Several have popped but it looks like a couple of them are beginning to turn tan...the humidity is sitting consistently at 80%...so why would they be drying out?? Could there be...

    Hatching questions thread

Thank you. I couldn't bring myself to do eggtopsys. I candled them and they didn't appear to have broken into the air sac. Hopefully better luck on the next hatch. Thanks for your advice.

    Hatching questions thread

Thank so much Molly1chickens. Just an update- I'm not sure if it was due to the seeping egg or something else but only 4 eggs hatched and the other 9 just sat for days doing nothing. The 4 that did hatch seem perfectly healthy though. But this is also the 1st time I have ever incubated eggs I...

    Hatching questions thread

I'm in the middle of a hatch at the moment. 3 have hatched- 2 have been removed and 1 has only just hatched so is in the incubator drying. But after it hatched I noticed another one of the eggs seeping! I quickly removed it and wiped the seeped liquid off the incubator floor but I'm pretty sure...

Unabsorbed yolk sac? Hernia? Please help???

And I think I'll use an incubator instead of a broody hen as it clearly didn't turn out well with her this time. 8 eggs and only 1 chick But a happy healthy chick at least.

Unabsorbed yolk sac? Hernia? Please help???

Thanks guys. I removed all other eggs from the hen and incubated them but looks none of them are viable. Update on the chick, the vet was putting some antibiotic on the bus to reach me today but it's too late :( she seemed fine last night before I went to bed but when I checked on her this...

Unabsorbed yolk sac? Hernia? Please help???

Thank you CGilbert and Lady of McCamley! And thanks so much for the learning resources :) I live in in a very small town where the local feed store and get is over 4 hours away. But I'll get a hold of the vet and hopefully they can mail something out to me. I have it on chick starter, is that...

Anyone??? Unabsorbed yolk sac? Hernia? Please help???

This is my first time trying to hatch chickens, we accidentally acquired a rooster and within a few weeks of having him we had a broody hen so I thought it would be a great experience for myself and the kids. We only had 1 other Sussex laying so Each day she payed her egg for a week I put it...
