I can understand the being skeptical part. Since I started feeding dog food however she/he's not eating near as much of the feed thankfully. I also got her/him some meal worms cause I've heard that they are a good thing to feed them from several sites. she scarfs them like a kid with candy...
could it possibly be young enough that all it's feathers aren't in yet? I'm not seeing any cuts or anything and she doesn't seem to be weary of anything other then potato peels. for some reason when I tossed them out for my birds last night she ran away. She came back but wouldn't touch them.
After more and more research I am absolutely sure it's a peacock. From what ya'll have said and what I've read it seems to be very young and possibly starved when it arrived. She or he (being young I'm now not sure if it's hen or cock) does have mini versions of a male's feathers on it's head...
About a week ago, a female (judging by color) peacock arrived on my property. She has made herself at home and hangs out with my guineas and chickens. She's got a band on her leg yet i've been unable to figure out where she came from. She seems happy and healthy but I've no clue what to do...
Having never had a hen actually set her eggs I'm not sure what I'm looking for LOL. Will she come out of the nest until she has enough and then start sitting on them? right now she has 6 eggs in the nest, 4 are hers and 2 are the buff orpington's.
I have found this thread very helpful! I have mostly buff orpingtons but recently (about 2 months ago) picked up 4 silkies for my daughter. She kept trying to love on my other birds and they were NOT impressed. The silkies let her love them I have noticed several things about the silkies...
I often tend to take in homeless hens. My latest arrived in September. A Spanish Clown Face. I was told she would brood and even take over other hens eggs. This was a plus for me as NONE of my hens are broody. I placed her into a coop with my buff orpington hen and rooster as I really...
Thanks for all the wonderful, warm welcomes! I'm really excited about my chickens. Yes they were already adults when I got them, so I can't cuddle them but they are getting used to me enough to allow me to pet them and they will eat scraps out of my hand. RooRoo greets me at the door to their...
Just a quick introduction. I'm fairly new to having chickens but am enjoying the process of learning. I have been bouncing around this site since the night I brought them home and finally decided to join I gained my flock from someone that needed to thin theirs. I have had them about 3...
