Using a bullet instead of a hatchet?

I found (for me) dispatching meat turkeys using a .22 short in a rifle, with the turkey's legs tied together, allows a quick, efficient dispatch. It has been the easiest method for me, YMMV

4 1/2 mo old RP genders?

I'm not an expert, but the question mark looks like a girl to me. Small snood and high neck feathers. just my opinion.

Should I Dispatch My Turkeys Now?

I just did mine (BBB), they were around 4 to 4 1/2 months old. 2 50 pound bags of feed every 7-10 days on top of the cheap corn for 8 birds decided me. The toms were around 40# before processing. Even then hens were bigger than the heritage tom (who gets to stay). I've found that 4 - 4.5 is...

    Tom or Hen

Not an expert by any means, but looks like a hen to me.

    Color experiment

Surprisingly, going by the above, the tom is black with faint white barring on his wings. No white on the rest of him. As a poult he had the black legs like the blacks. I know his father was black and there was only a narri hen involved. perhaps the original Black tom was not purely Black? I...

    Color experiment

I was hoping some of the geneticists (or someone who has done it) out there might have an idea. I have a tom who is a black x narri and 2 hens that are Bourbon Reds. (plus the BR tom but he is definitely second fiddle in the order). Come spring, I was wondering what color pattern(s) I may end...

    Behavior query

Thanks! So they just found something (noise /fence /bird flying overhead) that triggered the response.

    Behavior query

I noticed this tonight. These BR are 2 months old, and tonight I watched them all puff up, spread tails and stretch necks out, not fully but obviously out. Not strutting as there was no wing dragging and the tails were parallel to the ground. All 3 were doing it. Any thoughts on what this...

    Pre-cooked

Ok, so I had one poult hatch out the eggs I had and I figured I would get some chicks to "train" him. Well, my mother has banties so I had the bright idea to get some so there would be a place for the "trainers" to go when they all got old enough. All good for 5 weeks. I head to work one...

    Bantam what?

I've looked and can't quite find a "match" to this little one. It's legs are grayish, not pink. Any help?

    crashed hard drive

When I fired up my computer, nothing happened but clicks and grinding I work in a computer shop and SOMETIMES data can be recovered from a hard drive that is clicking. NOT always. A hard drive is a mechanical thing with moving parts that can and WILL fail. Some shops have the experience...

Difference between White Holland and BBW

Well, after looking at several pictures (Thanks Steve for your great pics!) and seeing that the WH have pinkish legs in all of them, it seems that we have what we ordered, BBW. I was kinda hoping they had made a mistake so I could keep a pair for next year's startup. Appreciate all your...

    Something Odd (pics)

I don't think it came from the hatchery that way as everyone else (out of 17) has one and I don't find a scar where it should be. Just a little different then the rest. Even without the snood he seems to be the dominant tom.
