What a dilema..
i have three broodies at the moment, one of them, known as chicken little has successfully been moved to another box and run.
however i have two others who are impossible to move. I tried moving one of them, but in the new box and run, she just paced and paced and let the eggs...
Last week it ran happily at 37-38degC
It dropped to 35degC so I bought it inside.
It then ran happily on again correctly, but this last day its dropped to 35-36degC
Water wigler has all dried up, but I do have a bowl of water in the incubator.
It concerns me the wiggler has dried out, as if...

Well now 10 speed is doing his job, and I have seen evidence of fertile eggs in my omelettes, I've decided to give incubating a go.
I have saved 8 eggs and have them in a carton on the kitchen...
you can see which ones are fertile in this picture. Not bad for a young man. juust started noticing the blastoderm.
Just have to wait for a broody, or just crank up the incubator for fun.
He is 8 months old, and just found it this week...
The girls may have began to lay too, found an egg in the coup.
He is a Splash Orpington and he is huge. He runs around, and looks like the Phantom of the Opera with his feathers flapping around.

We are getting into winter here too...thought they would start laying as it is thier first winter, or is that a myth? Cockerells have started to crow.

Dumped some spare soil in a wee hole, and the chicks found it and decided it was soft enough to have a dust bath, so all 7 got in and fluffed around.
Fugly Frizzle decided it was time to try it out as well...
On November 1 last year I hatched 10 chicks, orpingtons and sussex.
I thought they were lavender orpingtons, but now I'm sure they are splash and blue / black.

Been liced (flea powder) and wormed (crushed pumpkin seeds).

2k down the road, someone was selling eggs for $3.50, so I managed to fresh ones from thier coup.
Put them under the broody hen and viola....

Bossy decided to get off the two eggs today. They were cold when I got home.
3-4 days to go until day 21.
I've cranked up the incubator, filled it with warm water and set the eggs for thier final few days. The best I could get was 99-100F and 69-70% in earlier trials.
