I'm sorry the denegard didn't work for your hens. I don't have any experience with aspergillosis, just a little that I have read online. I believe the treatment was oxine given as a mist. You may be right, that could be what you are dealing with. It would be worth trying the oxine, it couldn't...
Yes I can take some droppings in. It's $25 at the vets close to me and they have both admitted to not knowing chickens that well. There is two exotic vets, one is about 30 minute drive and $35, and the other refused to do a fecal float unless I brought the chicken in and paid $75 office visit...
My 9 month old EE hasn't layed and egg for a few weeks and was acting a little more tired then normal. So I picked her up and did a general chicken check over. He crop has food in it but isn't full. She is very thin, I can feel her keel bone well and she is very light. I have seen her drink. Her...
Good luck! I hope it comes back as something more manageable so you can keep your flock!
I think the way you are handling this is very commendable. You are obviously a responsible breeder who cares for you animals. I wish they were all like you! You will get through this!
OMG! I'm so sorry!
Possible mycoplasma synoviae? What other illness can cause respiratory and neurological? And that kills so fast? I wonder if you have more than one thing going on? Have you considered cocci as a secondary infection?
Also an experiment I want to try is next spring letting any broody hens hatch some chicks and see if they are dosed monthly if they will ever show symptoms.
I've also had great luck with denegard as a preventive. A couple of things I want to add;
I use this dose- 16ml to gallon for active runny noses for 5 days.
8ml to gallon for preventative.
My chickens don't drink as much when the denegard is in their water so I use some of the treated water to...
It sounds like the breeder might be trying to rug sweep this issue and doesn't want you contacting the state vet and reporting where this illness came from. I would never deal with this person again and I would for sure be sending one for necropsy! Is ILT a reportable disease in Texas?
I understand feeling stressed! I felt the same way last year when I went through the initial illness. I wonder if you have a cocci out break as well? That is really common when combining flocks. Your birds won't be amune to the strain the new birds carry and vise versa. I would also to treat...
I'm so sorry! She does look miserable with that eye! Have you seen any improvement with the duramycin? You might want to try tylan. Some antibiotics work better depending on what kind of bacteria it is. She might have a sinus infection and I could be resistant to duramycin? If she is not...
It could also be infectious bronchitis. I know there is different strains of MG, but the one I have in my flock rarely causes death and the few that did die it was not that fast! I'm glad you are sending off for necropsy. It's great California does them for free. My state charges. Please update...
It was sad! She was such a sweet hen too!
People who knowingly sell sick chickens disgust me! I can't even imagine doing that to someone! If I were you I would be tempted to write reviews and warn others. The hen I bought was off KSL (local Craigslist) so there is nothing I can do. There is...
Only the first girl that brought in the virus had the swollen face. It actually made her go blind. Because no other chicken has had that same symptoms in over a year, I am assuming it was a secondary bacterial infection, maybe like a sinus infection. I haven't done testing yet, but I believe...
I brought in a hen over a year ago that after a few days had one swollen side of her face, cough, runny nose. I didn't isolate her in time and the rest of my flock started getting runny noses and some bubbly eyes. At first I treated with Duramysin 10, still had runny noses. Then I treat tylan 50...
