    Roo limping & med Q

Sometimes they mend on their own and sometimes they don't. I had a roo that had a similar limp. He got an infection and 2 weeks later he died. Better to be safe than sorry IMO.

    Roo limping & med Q

it's hard to be sure, but in my experience it has been from pressure on the back either from other chickens (as in Roo's breeding on top) or running into something, or if they free roam from a dog, or getting stuck... a million different ways. I don't think it's a vitamin deficiency based on...

Rehomed roosters used as bait for cockfighting?

You need to be very careful with re-homing him. Cock fighting is a horrible torture for the animals. They often tape razor's to the Roo's..there is nothing natural about it and it's so cruel it's outlawed in most states.

    Roo limping & med Q

You are also going to want to limit his movement for 24 to 48 hours while he's wrapped. If you have a large cage you can put it inside the run. Be sure to give him food and water, and spike his water with a vitamin B tablet. it's water soluble so u cant really overdose. But if u put too much in...

    Roo limping & med Q

I have seen that limp one time too many. It is up high at the hip joint under the wing. Get some soft rolled gauze and wrap it under the belly and under the wing just tight enough to give light support. If you can get some antibiotic - even better. Good luck.

    chickens badly mauled

I have nursed back to health many chickens that were attacked by dogs. If they survived until now you may have a good chance of saving them. I agree with the others, you need to get some water into them. Usually a few drops on the beak with an eye dropped will hopefully get them to open up and...

I'm still shaking, WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGES

Sorry about your chickens. At least your neighbor is doing the right thing. My sisters dogs have killed so many of my chickens and she doesn't care. Her dogs take priority over everything and everyone! (including people)

When I talk to my chicks, they shake their heads.........

chickens are smart. they know when you're talking to them. I stand on my porch and just say "Chickens" in a high pitched voice and they all come running from out of the woods. Then I have to feed them something amazing like cut up strawberries so they're not disappointed. But I think they like...

Do your put your chickens in at night?

my new coop is just this side of fort knox. I have had too many eaten by foxes, coyotes - you name it. they put themselves away at night and I clip the little door. Knock on wood, I haven't lost one in almost 2 years. Yep - you need to keep em in at night if you want to keep them alive...

broody, not laying, dirty vent, screams when I approach. is she dying?

i tried what you said and took her out about 2 hrs ago. she perked right up and started eating and drinking. her vent is like you said - just dirty on some feathers. But when i threw some bread one of my big girls (speckels) went over and tried to beat the daylights out of her. Speckels has...

broody, not laying, dirty vent, screams when I approach. is she dying?

My bantam has put herself in isolation and only eats and drinks when I put her in front it the food. She screams when I go in the coop and get near her, even if I haven't touched her. I noticed today that she has poop stuck around her vent and she hasn't laid an egg in months. She just likes to...

    *UPDATE* Neighbor's chickens freezing

you have to give that roo a chance. if he hasn't given up then you can't either. your doing the right thing by giving him a chance. And you obviously understand how special these birds are. I wish everyone knew how devoted and strong they can be. I'd bring him in the house and let him sleep in...

i hate to see them freeze. I've been bringing my little bantam in every night. the big girls have a heat lamp and do fine. but i think we're going to have a stupidly cold winter here.
