I have a chicken who injured herself trying to get away from my dog. Since then, she will not use one of her legs, and frankly, I can’t afford to get her x-rayed to find out why, but she gets around just fine. She was out with the rest of the flock a few days ago, and was brutally attacked by...
Sorry, I can’t really make out what’s going on in the photo. Does the goose’s neck kind of make a little jog? Mine didn’t have balance issues until near the end.
OK, there was a bit of feather right in the middle of the mass, so I pulled it out and also tried probing it with a needle. I got no blood or pus. It’s much larger than I realized and I’m wondering if it could be a hernia. Tomorrow I will start giving her penicillin shots... I don’t know what...
CasparAntrim, did you ever find out what was wrong with your bird? My Cream Legbar has something similar going on. I thought it was an infected feather but poking it with a needle doesn’t produce blood or pus. I’m wondering now if it’s a hernia. It’s quite large, squishy, and might possibly...
Ugh, I bet that’s what it is. She doesn’t seem to feel bad and is eating and running around normally. I haven’t been able to catch her today but plan on taking your suggestion when she goes to roost tonight. Thank you!
Eggcessive, I don’t know what a hernia feels like, but it is squishy. I get the sense that the only thing in it may be pus. There are a few feathers in the center, it’s kind of shaped like a donut around them. She is roosting at night. I haven’t seen this before and don’t want to hurt her in...
My 1 year old Cream Legbar has a large area about 2 inches below her vent and 2 inch diameter that is swollen, pushed out and the skin is kind of yellowish - reminds me of what a fever blister looks like only much larger. It’s very soft to the touch. I’m thinking it’s a badly infected feather...
Hi, queeny... unfortunately, after a few weeks, my gosling eventually got much worse, despite my best efforts. He began losing his balance and tumbling around, which frightened him so much that he began screaming, or perhaps he was in pain. I was forced to cull him. That REALLY hurt my...
Total chicks hatched = 6 of 8 set, plus 1 duckling & 2 more still in the incubator but not part of the hatchalong. Lost 1 Barred Rock about a week in & 1 Welsummer late dead in shell. I had several chicks pip in the wrong end but was able to save them by pulling early.
Haven’t taken many pics...
Received my egg shipment from Meyer Hatchery yesterday. If anything, the eggs were overprotected! Amazing packing job, eggs arrived in perfect condition. Two layers of egg crate, one layer of foam “marshmallows”, one layer of solid foam, and the eggs were packed in egg shipping foam. Can’t...
