Speaking from experience, that is a must! my first coop was a pain in butt when it came to raking. I eventually got to the point where I had cut my rake in half to make my life easier.

Huh I am in love with this little booger! She is so cute!! Especially when I turned around to check on her and she was dust bathing in the Gopher hole
So true! I started out with one that I had adopted from a sanctuary... Then I got two now I am about to get another hen that is a bantam polish.
YOU JUST CANT STOP!!!
Anyone have any advice on getting a broody hen to stop being broody... I have a sliver laced Cochin who has been broody for a little over a week now and by the way is now naked underside and she need to be able to grow those feathers back for her show in end of April. I have tried separating her...
My sweet Maisie had her first free range day with the big girls , well 3 of the 4 of them are big. She was such a happy little chicken at least until she almost ran into my standerd Cochin then she went over to a patch of grass and stayed there munching away from the others!
yeah I took her out of the nest box once and that was it, because I had to clean the nest box. I am looking for Buff laced polish eggs but if I can't find any I have to break her broodiness... She has a show next week!
My silver laced Cochin has been broody for 4 days now and she isn't even sitting on fertile eggs or even any eggs at this point... I gave her food and water so she doesn't dehydrate but I have tried a few tricks that have worked with my bantam Cochins and they don't seem to be working with her...
I have to explain quite alot what a chicken show or a Poultry show is to people... But a few days it was kinda ridiculous the amount of questions I was asked.
I was at WinCo getting the ingredients for my feed (I mix my own) then realized I need to restock all my show supplies. Magic erasers...
I feel really bad for my silver laced because she is consistently broody wanting to hatch eggs that aren't fertile.
I would be hatching any this year at least season because a friend of mine who had a roo to match her that I used for breeding had to move and the roo went with he. Poor girl I am...
Yeah it happens there is no way to keep them clean... Unless you make socks .
I love Partridge anything let alone Cochins, but sadly I have non. All I have is a silver laced standard and 2 bantam Cochins, dark blue and mottled. But I love them with all my heart.
Seems as if a little red star hen photo bombed my cuckoo maran :o :)
Pardon her paleness they were getting tired and ready to take a nap... But of course she can't sleep without testing the new toy
I was taking advantage of the dry warm day and started working on my spring projects like move the coop a few feet and starting the mini chicken garden in concrete blocks (as seen in pic)... Anyways I walked away for 30secs and came back to a chicken. Nothing strange normally but they were all...
She probably just doesn't want to go in... I have a Cochin bantam hen that doesn't like to go in either and have to do the exact same thing every night.
Don't worry about it, eventually she will get the memo that she has to go in every night.
Well I know my dark blue Cochin bantam goes broody an average of 2x a week sometimes more... Not saying she is the most broody hen but she is up there!
Yeah they are just upset about the weather because the can't run around in the yard or play... I am hyped the rain is subsiding for a few days and I am sure my girls are too
Interesting. My 1 maran is usually pretty quite unless something like rain upsets her, she is a great bird and I love her dearly her name is Genevieve... At first I got her just because I simply like marans, she ended up being absolutely beautiful and I am going to put her into shows with my 2...
