I'm looking for younger ducklings. My daughter put a duck egg under a broody chicken and I didn't know about it till she ran inside with the hatched duckling. It's only 3 days old and I'm going nutty pampering this lone duck which I can't put with my older ducks for a while. I was hoping that...
I have a silkie rooster (1yr) acting odd. He is sorta in a daze and does a head jerking motion. At night i keep him and a couple other silkies in a pen with some other younger birds. Now i noticed a young bird (4 wks) sort of all puffed up and keeping to it's self and is doing the head jerking...
Today is day 23 and a few hatched day 20 and 21 and have had a few issues...(learned a few lessons from errors)...I don't hear peeps but i know all but 2 out of 10 that remain definately have/had something viable in day18. When should i call it quits on the remaining eggs?
I removed about 6 chicks out of incubator because they were dry and figured it must be time for them to go into brooder there are still 20 more unhatched eggs. It was only opened a couple of times while i removed the empty shells and took out chicks. Will this affect the other eggs hatchability?
The sac is alot longer and very thin at the vent now. Lots of blood trailing behind the chick on paper towel covering part of incubator floor. Not too active either. Only one other chick has hatched so far.
I searched online that the sac that is attached to my just hatched chick is a yolk sac that if it doesn't absorb it will die. What are the chances of having a healthy chick in a week? Can it absorb the sac outside of the shell? Or did this have to happen before hatching?
Well the 21st day will be friday for my eggs, but when i started them i threw 3 turkey eggs in my LG incubator for the heck of it and 2 out of three have a lil' occupant. I am supposed to remove turner and increase humidity today...So my question is is it really a big deal if i open my incubator...

I am using a few moist paper towels rolled up on the side of my turner for now. But when i lock it down i am going toput a moist sponge inside after removing turner to really boost humidity.
I have the 3 little water holding areas filled in incubator filled and temp is around 101F but humidity is only at 34%. Eggs are going in tomorrow and i believe humidity is supposed to be around 55%. How do i get the humidity up?
