I switched their food back to the Purina brand and they seem to have been doing a lot better. I also sprayed their entire coop and cleaned it out and put the dust on the ground. I have gotten an increasing amount of eggs. Hopefully it was just the food. Also concerning, it might’ve been the food...
Hi again. Does this look like scaly leg mites to you? This is my 9 year old girl. She still lays and is a great chicken. But wouldn’t let me hold her to treat if it were…
Thank you. I will complete this.
They may be molting- how can you tell molting from picking etc?
One of my girls feet looks odd. Possibly scaly leg mites. I’ll take a picture when I get back into town.
Thank you for your help.
Thank you. I didn’t see any lice, but mites are smaller. I cleaned the coop and dusted with sevin powder and screwworm spray.
There poop looks normal- watery at times, but it’s hotttt in AZ Summers. I also recently switched their food brand (still 16% layer)
@Wyorp Rock you’ve been incredibly helpful in the past. Egg production is also down. Several weeks ago I was at a friends flock. She said they previously had northern fowl mites across the street and scaly leg in hers. But I changed my clothes and shoes before I came into contact with my flock.
Hi everyone. It’s been a while since I’ve needed to post here. Last week my 4 year old chicken died. Her crop wasn’t impacted. She had a slightly poopy butt no real signs of other illness. Recently, I’ve noticed many of my chickens seem lethargic. They are crouching down. Some of them have poopy...
I sprinkle mine in the corners of the coop- but make sure it’s covered by bedding since DE if inhaled (point of controversy) may cause lung issues for the chickens…
Thanks for responding @Wyorp Rock. You’ve always been so helpful with my chickens. 🙂
Here’s a picture of one of @alisoncrary...
I think it was empty. It felt slightly squishy, I think there was nothing in it. And I saw her poop several times which I figured was great news. I finally smelled the stinky breath. I’m continuing with The Monistat
Ill keep An eye out to re-drain her.
Yes she was walking around a bit more. Nothing came out of her crop this morning and She was finally pooping again. It felt like she was 5 lbs lighter.
I drained liquid from her belly. So I suppose it’s Ascites with lots of other problems.
Im still trEating for sour crop and massaging her crop frequently. I’ll see how she feels in the morning. Hopefully more comfortable for a few more days. Otherwise I won’t let her be in pain needlessly.
Today she’s eating better. If she releases liquid from her crop, it doesn’t Have a bad smell or anything. I’m concerned her belly does seem bloated. In fact her crop is harder to feel than most other chickens.
Try injecting the Tylan in the back of their neck or in the breast tissue. Also, Vet RX as a supplement ointment to go on her nostrils and help her breath better. Good luck.
