    Worm in Egg?

Does not look like a worm to me. Just an extra long chalaza that holds the yolk in place

    Hatcheries inconsistent Sexing of chicks

Stores I am aquainted with rarely order straight run. So mislabelling as pullets isn't probable.

    Hatcheries inconsistent Sexing of chicks

Hmmm? So the hatcheries don't care because they figure the store will get the complaints? That's not very ethical. When ever I hear a complaint. I recommend they find out which hatchery is used. Call hatchery. And see what they say. Review accordingly. Hatcheries should be held accountable if...

    Hatcheries inconsistent Sexing of chicks

Yes including TSC, by the time you know you got roosters they are quite grown. Food and time went into them. And many of the ones complaining think of them as pets not for eating. It's sad. But it just seems like the hatcheries are having a problem training their people how to sex a chick...

    Hatcheries inconsistent Sexing of chicks

I am hearing alot of complaints that when paying more for pullets they are getting more than their share of roosters. It like they bought straight run. But didn't. Shouldn't a hatchery be held responsible if you get like 7 roosters out 10 chicks? I personally only buy color sexed chicks to avoid...

Why do I beat myself up about butchering a few cockerels.

You are not weird. And I understand your feelings. Not sure this will help. But I feel that there was less stress for your guys putting them down at their home than hauling them to the auction stuffed in a cage. Then taken away meeting the same fate. It's one of the reasons I don't want to hatch...

What's your "Dream Flock"? How many chickens is the perfect amount for you? What breeds do you adore?

I like my Red Stars Can't get much friendlier than chickens that get stepped on because they won't get out of the way. They also lay alot of large brown eggs.

    Laying early, then not?

Has anyone else had a hen (Redstar) that seems to just lay with out knowingly knowing it. She has slipped eggs out while on the roost. Or out in the yard. No rhyme or reason. Just opps!!! Radena!

Topic of the Week - Building a Chicken Coop

I dont like exterior nest boxes that you raise the lid on. Alway disturbing a chicken getting ready to lay. Walking into the coop. Is less disturbing. Also I have had eggs freeze due to cold air blowing under the nest boxes.

    Frostbitten comb HELP!!!!!!!!!!

As I said. No action was taken. His comb fell off all by itself. I did not put any salves or ointments on it. Which I could have done easily. All I did was lock them in the coop. So he wasnt able to get out into the minus degree temperatures. If I was going to put anything on it. I would of put...
