Perhaps she is just really scared. One of my australorps..who is more like a dog than a chicken was terrorized by a hawk sitting on top of coop screaming and slashing at window. She would not leave coop even to go into enclosed run for three days.
Ive gotten several batches grom them..all but one of about 20 happy and healthy. Lost a 12 week BO for unclear reasons but rest of that flock have grown up great

Maybe you should get drastic and haul out the bark and replace with fresh clean wood chips?? If it was treated to make it less flammable chemicals of some type were used.
My barred rock and New Hampshire red hens are 26 weeks..very happy and healthy but no eggs yet. the BR started with the egg song activity so should be soon. i have other breeds that reliably laid at 24 weeks..they are all different. dont worry!
it is just recently very hot..they do have shade in run after the first half of the day...but pretty sunny b4 that. we are loaded with coopers hawks..my run is solidly roofed but still might get scared.

Sounds like tons of fun! I too am pretty new to backyard chickens, but as a kid I grew up on a production chicken farm. ( not pleasant for those poor chickens I now realize) . I was keen on free ranging, I live in Maryland in the US. Shocked to discover that we have a real problem with Coopers...
