    Neighbor complaining about roosters crowing

I don't know why this particular post caught my eye, or flared up my temper, but we had problems with our neighbors as well. (long time ago) They kept using a noise ordinance, that shouldn't apply outside of the town, but they kept dragging us through PD visit after PD visit and finally court...

    Apprentice Eggers Page

Northern Wings Home Farm I started with crates that I rescued from a local business. First filling in the holes between existing boards and joining two together for a larger coop. After I had the two crates joined I started to work on the fronts. I added a perch and nest box...

Best mini incubator to buy for a newbie?

Are you sure the eggs will be fertile? I don't know how many other people here know the old trick of taking the hen away from the rooster 2 weeks before a sale. It just keeps the stock with the rooster's owner. Maybe it's one of those things that's more popular among show people. I'm not sure...

Help with Montgomery Wards (Old) incubator parts

We actually found some 6V bulbs at our local ACE Hardware store. A 2 pk was $4.40 or there abouts. Now he needs to find the wick for the original Hydrometer. We both know it's out there and similarly easy to find, but we're just not sure where to source it. Thanks for the other good tips. And...

If I put a fan in my still air LG, What should I use?

I'm going to go against the grain here and tell you to get the factory fan kit. It installs easily and works great. I've found them for $33.99 in my area and I'm sure with a little shopping you can get it for a decent price as well. I think you will have much greater peace of mind using that...

Help with Montgomery Wards (Old) incubator parts

Hello friends, I did a search and couldn't come up with a valid link to the person who's been mentioned on here before as having parts for old incubators, or at least the information for them. I helped my friend purchase a Montgomery Wards incubator yesterday form a Craig's List posting and...

    Help with old incubator.

I found this incubator online and I'm wondering if anyone has one, and if it works well? What would you pay for one in this condition? It seems as though it has a decent price, but I'm about broke right now so I am trying to get the owner to come down a little on the price. Here's the pics...

Broody kicked 3 eggs out today... bad or good?

chickensducks&agoose I'm also from Vermont and I'd say Namble is right. Did you try candling just to be sure? Sorry, I've been busy with chicks, chickens, ducks, and a goose myself (That may soon be supper) to catch your arrival.

Sponges in LG bators to up the humidity? Bad or Good Idea?

Wow, I've been busy for a while. Yes, try some sponges. I have two thin sponges that I used. and can anyone tell me why a good Clorox bleach soak and through rinse before a subsequent use isn't good enough? Otherwise we might as well just pitch out our LGs and buy new ones for every hatch. I do...

Set my *FIRST* batch of eggs this AM Jan.21st. UPDATE. I've got 2.pg14

Melinda, Sorry about the bad eggs, I can certainly understand that. I don't know why some people allow unfertile or bad eggs to go out. I wouldn't want to be known for that kind of activity. I would certainly want to make it right if I had sold some bad eggs through an honest mistake. Maybe you...

    40*F !!! Did I ruin my hatch?

GracefulBantams, Why is your incubator in your garage? This may be one of the first things I noticed about incubating eggs, but they recommend 70* F and stable room temperature and humidity. That may be a prerequisite for larger incubators that foam incubators can ignore a little, but I...

Set my *FIRST* batch of eggs this AM Jan.21st. UPDATE. I've got 2.pg14

Quote: Melinda, The black one is the Silkie. The others are blue splash and one blue I think. It's funny because the father is a blue splash and the mother is a buff. I did an eggtopy on the one that didn't hatch and found a nearly completely formed chick. (I took pictures if anyone is...

My first set is in the incubator....Lockdown

This is probably my final post in this thread. I was able to hatch 6 of the 7 eggs we put into lockdown by day 22. My fifth Bantam Cochin out of five hatched around 2:30 AM. We only had one Silkie out of six original eggs hatch and that's probably all we'll get at this point. So here's the...

Set my *FIRST* batch of eggs this AM Jan.21st. UPDATE. I've got 2.pg14

It's day 22 and I have 6 out of 7 hatched. All of my Bantam Cochins hatched, but so far, and probably only one Silkie made it. So here's the pic. I'm very disappointed with the Silkie eggs we got from the silent auction. But the eggs from my own birds.

Guess I have to build a bator...

Good Luck. You probably should have made the trip. I've been driving 400 - 500 mile routes to pick up things in Southeastern New Hampshire including a nice laced Cochin pullet.

Set my *FIRST* batch of eggs this AM Jan.21st. UPDATE. I've got 2.pg14

Four Bantam Cochins and 1 Silkie so far on day 21 for 6 of the 7 set. One Silkie and one Bantam Cochin to go and the Cochin has already pipped. I hope Silkie #2 is just slow for my daughter's sake.

My first set is in the incubator....Lockdown

Well, number 4 made it into the big wide world. Number 3 just had to welcome number 4. That leaves 3 eggs left. Two that have to be Silkies and one I set a day later than the others.
