    What breed is this?

I was told this was a Barnevelder, but it doesn't look like any barnevelder I've seen before. Anyone have any ideas?

Help! Chicken ripped open by predator--need advice!

Help! I believe a coyote got its teeth into one of my hens this morning (other possible predators are raccoons or hawks). Regardless, her innards are now exposed and hanging open. I've secluded her and ensured she has water (though she's not drinking that I can see) and food (also not eating)...

    What's killing my chickens?!?

Help! 2 days ago, we found this 4-month-old pullet just outside the coop (our chickens free range). We've never seen a chicken killed but not eaten before. Then, today, we came out to find the coop dug into and this chicken inside the coop without a head or entrails. Any ideas about what's...

Red sexlink suddenly developed bald spot on head this morning!

As I've been working outside, I've been around the hens several hours every day but haven't seen any aggressive behavior. A mild chase is the worst it's ever been. However, the spot is larger today. I appreciate your help figuring this out!!

Red sexlink suddenly developed bald spot on head this morning!

21 month old red sexlink, roughly 5.5 pounds, developed bald spot on head this morning. Spot doesn't seem at all bloody, chicken not exhibiting any signs of stress or distress, other chickens no treating her any different. Noticed patches on neck of red sexlink without feathers in April...

8 month old speck sussex and bl sexlink not laying yet?!?

Umm ... good questions. This is what the chicks looked like on May 27: For perspective on size, the white next to the chicken is the lid to a copy paper box.

8 month old speck sussex and bl sexlink not laying yet?!?

Wow, thanks. We tried to give the hens dried mealworms when they were mini-molting in late August--no interest. Honestly, I thought the chickens would graze for what they needed. Is that relying too much on nature?

Not a black sex link after all?

Hi! We ordered speckled sussex pullets from a local farmer this spring. Picked the chicks up in late May and were told they were 5-6 weeks old at that time. By late June we were fairly certain one hen wasn't a speckled sussex. The farm responded to a photo with an apology and note that she was a...

8 month old speck sussex and bl sexlink not laying yet?!?

We have 3 hens, roughly 8 months old ... and none of them are laying. Near as we know, the hens hatched in mid-April. (Were expecting all to be speckled sussex, but started asking questions near end of June when it was clear one was not like the others.) The speckled sussex hen in the front...
