    Bathing chickens

OK so this is my first year owning a flock. And my question is obviously about bathing the hens. I have never actually bathed the them. I have wipe them down with a warm cloth with Teatree oil and that is all. Any suggestions on bathing them. I live in a very warm area so I think a bath would be...

    Found something attached to yolk

No I do not think so. Either way it would take some time to develop right? This was laid this morning.

    Found something attached to yolk

So I went to fry an egg and noticed this attached to the yolk. It looked almost like a piece of oatmeal(I know that's not what it is). But didn't look like a worm. Any ideas? Should I be concerned?

    Wound on my easter egger.

I was in the coop this afternoon and noticed my Easter Egger has this nasty scab near her tail. I don't think there are any other culprits besides my chickens. Any advice on how to treat and take care of it, or if it looks infected or abnormal? Or if it might be something other than a wound?

    Male or female

Thanks. I actually found a brown egg in a nest this morning(which is the color a buff would lay, right?). I figured the Buffs were both hens, and even from a young age thought the Barred Rock was male.

Can someone tell me if my Buffs are hens or not? I think the Barred Rock is a rooster, but I'm not terribly sure.[/IMG]

    Not roosting "properly"

Also it makes sense then that it's the older ones roosting on the cage.

    Not roosting "properly"

I recently added these little buckets to my chickens roosting area but I went to check on them one night to see how they liked it. Only half of them sleep in them. The other half I found sleeping on top of the ferret cage we use to integrate new chickens with. As long as they are comfortable I...

    Layer feed

Thanks so much. No I understand. I've come across a lot of recipes but I am trying to find a simplified recipe. (I suppose that may not be an option.) I have a pretty decent understanding of nutrition, what I don't know I research and ask my brother who does have a few degrees that I find...

    Help, chicken attacked

My buff was attacked by a stray dog a few weeks ago. I had to constantly attempt to her the entire day before she finally had any food or water at the end of the day. She tried to walk but kept falling over. I wrapped her legs, loosely and had to keep her nside for about a week, at night only...
