That makes sense. Yeah the lemon colour is so nice. I was susurprised at what hatched cause I know nothing about genetics but love them all. Lemon cuckoo sounds really nice.
Your pekin has similar colour to mine but without the black. Is it gold coming through? He had chicks that grew up to be yellow and don't know what colour they are
Hi,
Some colours seem to have significant markings as chicks. Like I've heard the chipmunk stripe used. Does a black dot on top of the head mean anything? What chick down gives evidence of colours it will grow into or genetics?
Our first experience with chickens we got 4 day old chicks and 3 ended up roosters. They were awesome with different personalities. They even played soccer with the kids and would eat out of their hands too. But yeah good to be with them when the kids are playing with them. Ours would stand in...
Can someone explain gold again. I've been searching through but lots of posts to look through.
Sounds like dominant white covers all black but you can see black in this so is it a splash with gold leakage?
I know my guesses are a bit off at the moment cause I'm still trying to work it all out...
Yes I get the blue is black diluted. That's the part that I know has passed on cause the splash carry 2 blue. It's the rest I'm working out how it all works to make the colours of the offspring. And I know that white means it's hiding it's base colour. That was what I wanted to figure out. I...
The male could carry gold ( makes red) or silver- you do not know because he is black under the white. If he had red showing through the white he would have red showing through the black in his plumage.
splash birds are actually black birds so when you cross two blacks you should get blacks...
Thanks for your patience answering questions. So sounds like rooster is 1 dominant white but can't have red or he would be red. So he could have a black gene under the white but have gold as well?
So when crossed with a black it has black or white off spring. The silver is likely the hamburg...
Thanks chicken5555. That looks like a cool rooster. I'm slowly working out mine. He's produced a variety from 2 hens so working out how dominant white works with different colours.
So the female from the black hamburg with silver x white rooster is just white no silver. And being extended black the black isn't dominant over dominant white?
So if it's silver sex linked how does it affect the male and female differently? One of the 3 chicks from that hen looked silver so that makes sense. And cause the hen was a solid black hamburg would it have come from a silver spangled?
Is there anything different about this chicken how it starts kind of silver, then looks like the splash chickens but actually just white. Anyone have unusual chicks or colours?
I'm still new to chickens and only have 2 silkies but the comb looks quite big so seems like it would be a rooster. If the new home washhappy to wait you could always keep it a bit longer but sounds like you're quite sure it is.
