It would be a beautiful world where our schools (and animal shelters) had enough money for everything they needed, and the military had to have a bake sale to buy a bomber. Sad story, I suggest writing a letter to your representative.

Wow, I am feeling your pain at not only losing your chicken but also having to kill a dog. It is so frustrating when I see people who have no properly trained their pups. And it sounds like she only wanted money out of the whole ordeal. You are obviously in the right to protect your family...
It is the hyper sterile environment that you have to watch out for. Children that don't play outside and get muddy and eat bugs never develop a potent immune system. Or a relationship with the natural world. Both are scary things to deprive children.
First day at the park! Well, to celebrate most of them being 2 weeks I took them to the grassy knoll across the way. The babies were a big hit with young and older people alike. There are 2 hens that are growing rapidly. In an interesting twist the small "bantam" that hatched 3 days later...

3) Stop being so involved in their business
There are other options but I just named 3 very reasonable, legal solutions.
I've been absent this week after my hatch concluded. 5 on 3/1, 2 on 3/2, 1 on 3/3, and the last on 3/4. The other 3 I cracked and checked out, they had unabsorbed yolks and looked like they passed late in the development. I am not sure why but 9/12 feels like a great hatch rate to me.
