It'll be ok. I have had eggs delivered to me that were upside down for days while in transit and they did fine. I have one chicken who lays eggs that are perfectly oval from time to time. I have put a couple of hers in the incubator and found out I put them in upside down after 6 days...
I was reading about diseases a few minutes ago and found this:

Might be worth reading thru. But swollen eyes can be a symptom of numerous diseases so you always have to be careful about diagnosis...
Sounds like it could be coccidiosis but there are several possibilities. There are a few drugs used to treat it, we have used sulfa drugs with success.

I hear ya. I said they were just BSL's to begin with because that's exactly what the hens look like and they said "No... They are bantams." But BSL bantams are definitely possible. Then I noticed the comb, the hens and rooster all have rose combs I am told. Because I don't recognize...
Good Morning folks.
We hatched a couple dozen eggs for a friend and do not know exactly what breed we have here, or rather, what breed the black chickens are in the pics. They don't know for sure either . We would just like to know what breed the black ones are. The pics here are the only...
I do not have a GQF, just a homemade incubator (old ice cooler) but have stacked eggs during the last 3 hatches and it has worked out well for me, still exactly 95% hatch rate.
Just make sure they can all get out of their shells when the time comes.
And I do staggered hatches when stacking...
We actually have 1 coop full of nothing but the breeds you have listed. We put them outside at 4 weeks old, which was about 5 weeks ago now, and they are doing great. We actually put ALL of ours outside at 4 weeks old.
Our Silkies have no problem with ramps. They use a 34" long ramp that goes up about 14" or so high and somehow manage to get up on their 6' high roosts every night. I will say though that up until about 3 1/2 or 4 months old they stayed on the ground at nights. We have another coop that has a...
My last broody hen "stole" eggs from 4 other hens and hatched them out. And I even put one chick under her that I hatched out of my incubator while hers were hatching. They aren't picky at all... the more the merrier.
RIR roosters are definitely known for being aggressive. Always have been, always will be. My Grandfather started raising RIRs and NHRs in the 40's so I've heard plenty about them but...
We had one beautiful SQ RIR rooster that was named "Dumplin'" early on because he was very mean and we...
I wear safety glasses all day long at work and they have saved me substantial misery several times.
I keep safety glasses near the coops, on my mowers, hanging in the garage, in the truck, in the house... everywhere.
I would recommend that everyone buy a $2 pair and wear them while in the...
We've had EXCELLENT luck with Ameraucanas and EEs... they are tough. In a past hatch we had the temp drop down to 68 degrees OVERNIGHT (79 degrees in the water wiggler) and still had a 90% hatch rate. In another the temp jumped up to 113.5 degrees (in the water wiggler) for at least an hour...
I couldn't resist... right as I saw this thread one of our last Olive Eggers from a staggered hatch was coming out of it's shell so I had to take a picture. It's fluffed out now. Black with a big fat white beard and muffs.

1 week old BBR Malay Pullet.
Day old BBS Rock.
Group shot of some we just hatched out. The 1 Polish is ALWAYS staring toward the camera.
Black Rock x EE Mutt just a few hours old.
I did this last week too. Just as stated above, it's best to do it at night and make sure she "accepts" them. Hens aren't too picky about their chicks and will normally take as many as you can give them.
In our last hatch at day 12 all of out EE's were completely dark, our silkies were coming along nicely but our Polish eggs had just veins and an embryo in them. It didn't look good to me, it looked more like day 5 or 6. But 7 out of the 8 Polish hatched and are doing well. I thought they were...
