    Bloody Vent - Prolapse?

I am cracking up! I work in a hospital; I'll have to remember to tell the doctors that one. They'll love it! My husband wasn't too thrilled to be putting hemorrhoid cream on a chicken's butt. I told him that he eats the eggs, so he can help doctor the hen.

    Bloody Vent - Prolapse?

Well, I just sent my husband downstairs with some hemorrhoid cream so let's hope that's all it is! I feel so bad for the poor girl.

    Bloody Vent - Prolapse?

I came home this evening to a bloody egg and found a hen with a very bloody vent. She is about 7 months old and has been laying an egg per day since May/June. I soaked her in warm water and cleaned her up. I have moved her into our basement, which stays pretty dark. Is there anything else I can do?

Oddly Shaped Egg - Should I Be Concerned?

I am currently away on vacation and the boy that is taking care of my girls sent me the attached photo of the eggs he collected today. One of my EEs apparently laid this large, long egg today. She's young, about 6 months old. She's never laid an egg like this before. Should I be concerned? Is...

    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Anyone looking for Silkie roosters? We have four that need new homes. They're free, please come get them! My husband is threatening to send them to chicken heaven and my daughter would be heartbroken. The buff is about a year and the white and black ones are about 5 months. All good with hens...

    Neighbor Complaining/Threatening Ordinance

I've gotten the impression over the past 5 years of living beside her that work is not something that she or her son are familiar with. The son (approx 30 y/o) lived in the house when we first moved in and his dad had to come over and mow his yard because he wouldn't do it himself. When the son...

    Neighbor Complaining/Threatening Ordinance

I think we're going to go over tonight and see if we can address her concerns. It baffles me because she was telling us last summer that she thought our silkie girls were cute and that she enjoyed seeing them. Last night was a 5 minute tirade while we stood there in shock. It was like two...

    Neighbor Complaining/Threatening Ordinance

Her house is on a raised foundation, so her back door is high enough that it opens almost on top of our fence. Our chickens are kept in a building on the opposite side of the property from her home and only allowed to free range in the evenings when we're home (we have a hawk problem). Honestly...

    Neighbor Complaining/Threatening Ordinance

We don't have any yet; my hens are only 4-5 months old. A dog got into our yard last fall and killed all but my rooster, so we are starting over. We did give them eggs before when we had extras.

    Neighbor Complaining/Threatening Ordinance

Hi all, We were out in the yard with our 3yr old and chickens tonight. We live in town. Our back yard is completely enclosed with an 8ft privacy fence. Our 70ish yr old neighbor came out and "voiced an opinion" about several things. Her back door overlooks our backyard. Her first complaint...

    Hen with Curled Feet

I have poly vi sol; I'll put it in her water now! Is it unusual for only one to be affected? The others are all fine.

    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hi all, I have a 3 month old bantam hen that we noticed today walking with her feet curled under. One side is worse than the other, but she is basically walking (stumbling) around with her toes curled completely under her feet. None of the others are doing this. She's active and eating well. I...

Pullet or Cockerel? Black Sex Link?

Yay! I am so happy to hear all of you say she's a pullet! I think my husband was hoping she was a roo so he would have a reason to get rid of her. I might have had a problem with my chicken math...6 chicks somehow turned into 15.

Pullet or Cockerel? Black Sex Link?

Oh no! I hate when things like that happen. This little one is very sweet natured. I hope you're right about her being a pullet!

Pullet or Cockerel? Black Sex Link?

I picked this little one up from the mystery bin at RK about 2 months ago. I think it's a black sex link, but not sure. I've only had Silkies, so this is new for me. My husband swears it's a cockerel. Feathers have an iridescent green sheen. There is a very small bump on the legs that he thinks...

There are lots of excellent ideas on here if you search "coop designs!" We are currently searching through them to find one we would like to build.

    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

My local RK does special orders. I just got Silkies there yesterday. You may check with farm stores in your area, but most require you to buy a minimum of 6. Edited to add: I'm in the Bedford area, about 70 miles south of Indy. There is also a hatchery in Salem that breeds Silkies - Akers...
