I came home this evening to a bloody egg and found a hen with a very bloody vent. She is about 7 months old and has been laying an egg per day since May/June. I soaked her in warm water and cleaned her up. I have moved her into our basement, which stays pretty dark. Is there anything else I can do?

That doesn't look like a prolapse to me, looks more like she burst a blood vessel laying. Kind of like when you take a big poop and make your butt bleed "horrible example I know".
Well, I just sent my husband downstairs with some hemorrhoid cream so let's hope that's all it is! I feel so bad for the poor girl.

Well that should at least make her feel better. Most prolapses look like the chicken is turning inside out. Years ago I faked hemmoroids to get proctofoam "the good stuff" to treat a hen with reoccurring prolapses. The stuff you got to do. :)

I am cracking up! I work in a hospital; I'll have to remember to tell the doctors that one. They'll love it!
My husband wasn't too thrilled to be putting hemorrhoid cream on a chicken's butt. I told him that he eats the eggs, so he can help doctor the hen.

As was mentioned that's not a prolapsed vent. Just keep it clean (or as clean as a chickens butt can be) and keep an eye it if you put her back outside. You don't want want a minor problem to become a major problem.
