Hi there,
I’ve recently been hatching some Silkie Cross ISA Browns. About 3 months ago I hatched 2 Roos that looked much like their ISA brown mother just with a little more white fluff, they were beautiful boys and I would have loved to see them grow up, but alas have now been rehomed, I’ve...
Usually I would agree with these statements, but I have just experienced a miracle hatch!!! Turning all my knowledge on its head! My broody hatched 2 chicks and like Egghead Jr said the broody abandoned the remaining eggs about 24 hours after the first chick hatched. I removed the eggs (1 x...
I ended up shutting the door of the coop with mum and babies inside and added food and water, so mum didn’t really have any other choice to make. That seems to have worked. Beautiful little baby and she’s doing so well.
Amazingly it survived the night. I was up at 6 this morning to check because I was concerned of exactly what has been written here. Momma hopped up when she heard me and went outside, but was confused about what to do because all her babies didn’t follow her. I’ll have to keep a very close eye...
Here it is on my lap/heatbag.
I popped it under the original broody at 11pm and checked it twice after that. All seems good. I’m going to bed now, I just hope and pray this little beauty survives.
I’ll update in the morning.
Night all
:fl:bow
I have the most amazing hatching story I’ve ever experienced!
My broody was sitting on 6 eggs, 2 of them hatched no problems, but when I checked the next day she had abandoned the remaining 4 and they were stone cold. One of them was half way hatched but there was no sign of life, and another...
Hi all,
My broody is currently on day 14 of an incubation, and in a general nest box where the others can still lay eggs that she steals! My friend has asked for some of my fertile eggs. So I rescued 2 New volunteered eggs from under her this afternoon to take away and give to my friend...
What is this ‘enough is enough’ that you talk of? :lau
Enough is never enough!!
Every time, I’m happy with my flock! This time I was totally happy with my flock, then my 2 ladies went broody. I ignored them for a week or so, but then ‘somehow’ a pile of eggs ended up under them!
Hello, I’m probably a bit late joining as my eggs are due now(ish)!! I’ve just noticed a pip in one of my eggs :celebrate. I currently have 2 broodys in one nest box co-sitting/hatching. I’ve never had 2 hatching together before, I’m hoping they will just co-parent. We had one egg hatch way...
Broodys are without doubt the best and easiest way of hatching eggs! If they can be hatched they will hatch them! All of my hatches have been done under broody, however some hens are better than others at hatching and mothering. I currently have 8 eggs ‘cooking’ under a pair of broodys! I’ve...
Thank you for your replies.
My roosters are 18 months old and were brood brothers, I guess that's how they manage to exist in harmony together, although occasionally they will tussle but the partridge always comes out on top. One of my broodys hatched them both and because there has never been...
Hi,
I've had 2 broody mommas brooding at the same time, one of them raised her chicks within the flock, the other one is raising her baby in a maternity enclosure within the main coop.
The maternity coop is totally visible to the others, so I didn't think there would be a problem. Infact most...
I bought two new babies yesterday for one of my broody mummas. it's been challenging because although I was told they were a couple of days old, when I picked them up, they were at least 6, which is pushing it for sneaking them under a broody. But I still went with it, this broody mumma is a...
No, the other eggs never developed, but our little one is doing great. It's really interesting watching it's colouring develop, because it's taken on its own colour really nothing like mum or dad so far!
Mum is a white splash ameracauna and dad is a partridge silkie, but Twiglet is dark grey...
I have a baby! And It looks like this little one takes most of its genes from its Silkie dad as it has 5 furry toes!
Only have 2 eggs left as one of them was bad and exploded under the broody today!! My goodness she stank!!
i have a broody sitting on 4 eggs at the minute, three are a cross between my Ameraucana and my Silkie Roo, the other one is a pure silkie. We are on day 19 and I've just heard peeping coming from one of the eggs.
I'm really excited to see the first crosses of my own birds.
I don't have any...
:lau:eek:
Actually one of my girls is starting to show signs of looking a bit broody, so I might just keep my eye on her and perhaps slip a couple under her just to see what happens!
Just a bit of an update... can't believe it, but they've managed it!! I've been checking the fertility of the eggs and this week, finally found a bullseye! On one of my bigger girls eggs. So you were all right, they finally figured it out. :lau
