I have a young hen with runny yellow poop, something I have seen before in previous pullets and hens of mine a few months back. I lost around six hens to whatever this is before it tapered down and all was normal again. It was quite traumatic, as I lost both of my first ever hens. I sent one for...
I'm not entirely sure what happened with my hen. She had been having various prolapses a few weeks before, but seemed to have stopped for a week or two before passing. I hope she didn't become egg bound and I just didn't notice, because I didn't see any of her eggs for a while up until her passing.
Dottie has sadly passed away today. She was not doing so great these past few days, despite starting to eat on her own for the first time last night. She was a week old today. I suppose something internally was going on and she could no longer fight it. I also lost the hen that may have been her...
I just started getting her to eat a little bit with some watered-down food. Currently having to use a syringe, but she is always eager and ready to eat when I start feeding her. Hoping to soon get her to switch to a bowl, even if she still needs help.
Possibly still looks like she may have one...
Update on the chick that could not hold its neck up. I dripped some sav-a-chick into its beak this morning and just hoped. I didn't expect it to live, but when I checked on it next it would stand up every now and then and lift its head to look around. It has now improved much more and can stand...
I do not inbreed my birds. It is a 50/50 chance that the mother of this particular chick was my D'uccle with half a toe missing. I'm not sure if the missing toe is genetic or lost in an accident, as I got her from a friend that got her from Atwoods. I just don't see how a missing toe can result...
Thank you. I certainly hope it's not Marek's. I had to assist this one in hatching, as well as two of the other three that hatched. Ironically the one with deformities was the only one that didn't need an assisted hatch. The other two that were assisted appear fine and are up and running around...
You just trying to help is enough and greatly appreciated! I have some sav-a-chick probiotics and sav-a-chick electrolytes. I'm not sure if I have anything else along these lines, I'll have to go and check. None of them are eating or drinking yet. I still have them in the incubator as of...
Thank you for input thus far everyone. So far the little one is doing okay. Well, I mean as okay as it can be with its current situation. Unfortunately one of its hatch mates is not doing so well. It can not hold its head up and keeps curling up as if it were still inside an egg. It often...
At this point I am not quite sure what I am going to do. It is a hard decision either way. She is still alive at this point and has two siblings that are perfectly normal. I have pinpointed the hen that she came from. It was either my Millie D'uccle that is missing half of a toe, or my D'uccle...
I woke up to a chick that had hatched with no eyes and a cross beak. I have another chick that is around seven weeks that is blind, but has both eyes. I have never had a chick with cross beak before, and have no had my blind girl for too long. How can I better care for this little chick?
The orange and black is a Silkie and Millie Fleur D'uccle mix. I meant the third chick shown. A friend thought maybe a Buff Orpington but then said the leg colors didn't look correct for that breed. Perhaps a mix with Orpington in her?
Wondering if gender can be determined yet on these chicks, or even guessed at. The first two will be seven weeks old tomorrow. The other two I am unsure about, but they look around the same age. I also would like to know what breed the little orange one possibly may be.
I...
I have not noticed any, no. Though I haven't necessarily been looking for them. We feed them Manna Pro medicated chick starter. It's the only medicated starter at our store.
I managed to get Melody to poop and looked closely through it. I did not see any worms.
For some reason it is smaller today. Almost so small that you can't feel it. We shaved the area the best we could and tried to get a better picture.
I'll get one of her standing normally when I get the chance.
I'll try to get some better quality pictures in the morning. The lump is on the left side near her left leg, between her legs. I thought it might be the crop at first, but it's much lower down than where the crop would reach.
Her comb spot has healed now, but she still has no claws on those front toes. Very odd, but it might be something genetic. The lump is under the skin. I couldn't get that great of pictures because her fluff was in the way. I may need to shave that area tomorrow to get better pictures. Here is...
