What type of suburb is it? If it is like alot of what use to be country living and turning into modern suburbs where every house looks the same, they want to rid the neighborhood of chickens to keep the community upscale. Smell, Noise, and being bothersome pest would be the reason for the...
Correct! I had to redo the wiring today... I accidently had the fan wired to be turned on/off by the thermostat. Temp was going down too fast. With it being fixed, temp is solid now :) I will run a batch of eggs this weekend now. Could you tell me if my settings are good:
High Temp = 99...
I bought eggs 1 time on ebay and it was local.. $2.50 for 24 Leghorn eggs :) I was the only bid. Sad part is, I never seen the seller on Ebay again :( Eggs were fertile.

My 1st time incubating, I lost ALL 24 eggs. The were all just about out when they all died. It is frustrating in the beginning, but that is part of learning. I still only get 75% hatch rate (still learning), but It doesn't stop me :) Keep doing what you are discussing here.. Experiment...
Yep, It works now! Thanks for the help. Basically it wires like a dimmer switch :) This LED thermostat is soo much better than the wafer. BTW, How can I test temp to calibrate thermostat?
THANKS AGAIN!!!!
Kevin
My last batch, a chick was assisted in hatching (against my opinion) and it is alive but a runt compared to the other chicks that hatched on their own. My opinion is live and let die at hatching. Using logic, the eggs in incubator are free and never ending supply. I rather lose the chick in...
I'm in Hillsbor and bougt 6 at the local feed mill for their cost price. You have Mt Healthy Hatchery too. At hatchery, you must purchase 15 and that is about $80 (no sexing). I bought 15 lemons last year due to their samenila outbreak. I did not purchase from this year over their attitude...
It is about/over a month old. Doesn't the duck going to want to waddle in water? I have a creek also, I fear it may go in the creek and swim away, lol. I am absolutely ignorant to ducks. It is suppose to be the kids pet. Just like the cat and dog, they will give it attention while it is new...
Thanks, I can stop calling them Leghornes now (**** Foghorn Leghorn), lol :) Since I have a hen in the batch, I guess eggs would be good to incubate for meat chickens.
Kevin
Last year, I had a hen and several roosters left over. They look like White Leghorns, but other White breeds look similiar to Leghorns. Anyone know the real breed of the chickens 4-H uses? My roosters are beyond hefty! In fact, when the dominate rooster gets into a fight with the neighbors...
I feel your pain! Reading your posts in this thread was like re-living my 1st turkey experience last year. To rub salt on your would, add the cost of the feed you have used to the cost of the birds. The hatchery looks at is at consumable merchandise sold, no refunds. Once it leaves the...
When the kid's mom went and picked up some turkeys from the local feed mill, she bought a duck too. Yes, 1 duck! Right now, the duck is outside brooder with month old chicks. It was making a watery mess inside the tote in the house. It would collect water and dump it on the wood shavings...
I'll get some pics up this evening of it. For now, I can describe it easily:
Indicator light and heating element are connected to a female bullet connector x2 (2 leads) Thermostat and fan go to the male bullet connector x2 (2 leads) on the thermostat, I tried the 2 leads in loading connection...
Now I'm confused. Its claim was you hook the power to it and then you hook heating element to it and it will activate and deactivate the heating element. The backside has 4 sections with 2 leads per section:
1) Power Supply - Obvious this is for the AC cord.
2) Probe - For the temp probe
3)...
