Dream flock = Parrot Beak Long Tail Assel -
It would be the greatest thing to breed these birds here in Southern California.
I can only imagine how potentially beautiful they could be, if only they could live in paradise, rather than the ----hole prisons they currently exist in.
(What's...
I have a White Sultan, who hatched early April, (April fools?).
He was purchased assuming to be a female of a different breed.
He started crowing at 4 mo..
1st a single tone, that made me wonder what was in my back yard.
Then two tones, and right in front of me, so I knew it was him.
As the days...
Well Quiet doesn't describe my Sultan!
It turns out this little guy is a male.
Hatched early April, (April fools) he was purchased assuming to be a female of a different breed.
I have neighbors, who's sleep I'm infringing on.
Anyway, This Male White Sultan is very cool looking.
He's friendly to...
Mine where big sissys (indoors) if I just shut off the light at night.
My fault, think about it; Dose the sun shut off?
So I slowly dimmed the light (dimmer switch) over 1-2 hour period.
Once you get them outside, and let them adjust to daylight,
they'll get over it real quick.
Get yourself ready with some food and drink, to relax near the coop with them. (I have a pik-nik table I/we set at).
Have the coop fully prepared, and release them all at one time.
Then observe them as they explore their new surroundings, and sort it out.
Most chickens hate surprises, so having...
I wonder how aggressive your Roody would have been, if your son carried a big stick?
That worked for me as a kid. (300+ flock) I was the Boss @ 3yrs of age.
Did your son want to get rid of him?
When I was in your shoes, I picked Brahmas.
"The King of all Poultry"
1. They are beautiful, large, majestic birds.
2. They lay lots of eggs.
3. If I needed meat...again; Large.
4. Gentle, not bullies, yet tough when challenged.
I like their lineage....A bit mysterious, but through research I...
A very timely article.
Recently, our whole house was infested by bird mites.
Everyone was getting bit, and having them crawling all over us.
It all came from what we thought was a cute situation.
Some doves decided to make a nest in the eaves of our front entry door.
We enjoyed them, and the bit...
So, $333.33 per chick.
A good deal, considering the going rate for an adult is $2,000.00
Now you could keep two for breeding, and in 2 months, sell one for 2 K.
Then go buy 20 more eggs!
The chick sale will pay for both clutches, minus the cost of feed and housing.
I say your doing good already...
Ya Sea Wolf, your right.
Thanks for the advice.
I called them, and they wouldn't have more Brahma chicks in, for another month. (bad timing)
Actually, I think they are obligated to do what you said, but I just let it go. ($3.50 for 1 White Sultan chick)
That, combined with a 1 hour drive &...
Hi Libby.
Ya, she is pretty cute.
Probably going to end up keeping her.
Nobody's responding, and family members are starting to become attached. - (me too, lol)
Times running out.
We'll see.
While passing by the KAHOOTS in Norco California, I noticed a sign out front that read; Got Chicks?
So naturally, I had to stop in and see what they had going on.
They had 9 different breeds, WOW, and one type was exactly what I was looking for; Brahma
I asked the employee if it was possible...
So, how much did 20 eggs cost?
I trust you will be a more informed breeder than the party you purchased from.
Which in turn will make you reputable success!
Good Luck to you Anizam.
Thank you so much Lady of McCamley.
Those are very insightful and considerate suggestions.
This is really good information, and directions.
You have my interest refocused.
I'm going to research this breed.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Because I haven't started yet, & will appreciate the info.
We're a family of four living in Southern California.
Here's our needs / wants, in raising chickens.
1. Healthy eggs for the family to eat. (not to sell)
2. Friendly (I know interaction at an early age, will...
Hi Anizam,
Stay safe, and laboratory clean as possible.
Encourage serious fellow breeders to have quarantine stations.
I would stay away from social events like shows until you're in the clear, it's not worth it.
The news you have sounds encouraging for the future, and something to look...
This is exactly the species I want to breed here in Southern California - USA.
I would take great effort to raise and breed these birds, and to maintain pure blood line traits, while striving for large size.
These birds would have optimum living conditions here, and beneficial diets, to achieve...
