    Poop questions

Yes I had assumed there would be respiratory issues but the vet couldnt hear any fluid or debris in her air sacs. Im administering amoxicillin- the vet didnt prescribe but we had it here from last time one of them got sick. No new birds. Last egg would have been friday or sat. No fluid in the...

    Poop questions

I forgot to mention that she has been sneezing regularly for about 3 weeks too (this is what prompted the vet visit in the first place). No obvious discharge from nose or eyes.

    Poop questions

Hi all My 5 yr old speckled sussex is being fairly lethargic and not all that interested in food. Her poop is runny and has grass in it, and her crop is full (Im going to isolate her tonight to make sure its emptying overnight). Nothing has changed with her diet, water is clean and she is...

Penny the 5 yr old bantam gasping for air.

I had a 3 yr old rescue with a similar problem- constant gasping to the point that she couldnt sleep. The vet did a blood test and she had severe anaemia. One of our other ladies donated some blood to her but that only fixed things for about half a day. It's just awful when you cant fix things...

    Diagnosis needed- scaly leg mites?

Thanks a lot. We have done one treatment and will repeat in a few days. We'll keep her segregated for at least 2 weeks at this stage. My other two are big sooks so hopefully they wont make the transition too hard

    Diagnosis needed- scaly leg mites?

Yeah it's pretty full on. I was going to use a vegetable oil because the skin has broken in some spots so didnt want to use WD40 in those circumstances. I'd like to avoid the vet if possible

    Diagnosis needed- scaly leg mites?

Hi everyone! After the loss of two of our sweet chickens we have decided to expand our flock again. Our newest little one was getting bullied in her last home so we have taken her. I think she is a little langshan and her feet look to me like she has a severe case of scaly let mites. It...

    The EMERGENCY Thread!!!

No problems! I have to wrestle with mine. It helps if you wrap them in a towel first. Its much easier to do this with 2 people (one to hold and one to administer). Their natural reaction is to fight it, but once it's in they calm down. For me it's a much better way of guaranteeing both...

    The EMERGENCY Thread!!!

Mine are so fussy and generally dont drink anything added to water voluntarily, so I usually administer the dose using a syringe with about 12cms of gastro tubing attached and administer it directly into their crop. While I havent done this with that antibiotic specifically, it has worked well...

    Rooster keeps opening his mouth

Thank you. I introduced the probiotics yesterday morning but unfortunately it hasnt made much of a difference. We have put her out in her favourite place in the garden for her 'last day in the sun' before taking her to the vet tomorrow. I'd be inclined to wait longer if she was able to sleep or...

    Rooster keeps opening his mouth

thanks a lot. No im not seeing any worms come out at all which really is very odd. Still no change in her this morning, so unfortunately we will have to make an appointment to take her to the vet tomorrow :(

    Rooster keeps opening his mouth

@Wyorp Rock her abdomen feels normal- she hasnt laid eggs for a while presumably due to her age, but she doesnt have a history of soft or shell-less eggs. Her abdomen feels normal- no bloating or fluid or anything like that. She has a fatty tumour at the top of her leg, but it has never caused...

    Rooster keeps opening his mouth

yes he gave me Vetafarm wormout tablets for her. She has been eating a mixture of layer pellets, cooked yolk and water/probiotic yoghurt. After just over 48 hours she is still the same- almost constant panting with no relief. The longest I have seen her sleep is 1.5 minutes!

    are these symptoms of worms?...

fecal sample to the vet is probably the vest option. My understanding is that some worms are visible in stool samples but many require a microscope/other methods of testing. It may be worth worming them with a broad spectrum wormer just in case. Often birds hide their symptoms until theyre too...

    The EMERGENCY Thread!!!

I'll ask them tomorrow about what they found. The dosage is 1 tablet per bird (they each weight approx 2kgs so that seems right). She's still eating a lot, so I remain hopeful that she will pull through, despite her age.

    The EMERGENCY Thread!!!

They gave her vetafarm worm out tablets I think (at least that is what they gave me to give the rest of them). He looked in her mouth and down her throat/windpipe pretty thoroughly so i assume they were looking for gapeworm. I actually dont know which parasites they found- I didnt think to...

Gasping for air only while lying down and being held!

My little isa brown has similar symptoms (gasping for air) and my vet diagnosed her with severe anemia. My worry is that she can't sleep because she is gasping almost constantly and Im so afraid that she is going to exhaust herself before she can recover :(

    The EMERGENCY Thread!!!

HELP: My 4 yo isa brown has a pale comb, is lethargic and is constantly gasping for air (to the extent that she cant sleep for more than a few seconds at a time). Took her to the vet yesterday morn (about 36 hours ago). Initially he thought it was heart disease, but then examined poop and saw...

    are these symptoms of worms?...

That's awful. Sorry for your loss. I also have a Rosie with similar symptoms (but instead of feather loss she's consistently gasping for air) so I'm very worried. You should still find out if it was worms as the rest of your birds may also have them.
