Rooster keeps opening his mouth

@Wyorp Rock her abdomen feels normal- she hasnt laid eggs for a while presumably due to her age, but she doesnt have a history of soft or shell-less eggs. Her abdomen feels normal- no bloating or fluid or anything like that. She has a fatty tumour at the top of her leg, but it has never caused her any issue before.

The vet has been checking in every day- they both seem to think that the worms took a lot out of her, and that once theyre put of her system she'll begin regenerating red blood cells and recover.

It's awful seeing her like this. I think I'll wait until saturday and if there is no improvement think about other options

I'm glad your vet is checking in with you. If the worm infestation was really bad, they could take a lot out of her. Hopefully the medication they prescribed will start to take care of them. Are you seeing any worms coming out in her poop?

I know you are doing everything you can for her, I'm sure it's very stressful. I hope she starts to improve

thanks a lot. No im not seeing any worms come out at all which really is very odd. Still no change in her this morning, so unfortunately we will have to make an appointment to take her to the vet tomorrow :(

If it is capillary worms, you won't see them. And yes, they will take a lot of energy out of her and toxicity from worm die off can sometimes kill If you are not already, you can try giving her some probiotic powder in her food or water, as well as vitamins/ electrolytes.

Thank you. I introduced the probiotics yesterday morning but unfortunately it hasnt made much of a difference. We have put her out in her favourite place in the garden for her 'last day in the sun' before taking her to the vet tomorrow. I'd be inclined to wait longer if she was able to sleep or showed other signs of improvement, but unfortunately that's just not happening.

I'm so sorry she is not improving

That's too bad and I'm sorrry. Only you can tell when it's time, and it's the kindest thing to have a bird euthanized rather than just helplessly watch it die.
