    HELP!! Baby chick won't eat

I just got baby chicks this am and had same issue. I used a lid to a peanut butter jar and put warm water with chick jumpstart (electrolytes) and put the chick feed in it. It softened it like mushy and watery. They all went crazy eating it. I had to put the ones not eating right at the edge of...

    Coop secure or not?

I put hardware mesh all around the run to the top and in ground put roof over the run. We already have a hawk that comes daily to sit in tree and watch them- probably trying to figure out how the heck he will get them!! Do you plan to let the roam free in yard or keep them in run? I'm...

Question About Introducing Water Bucket W/Nipples

I would remove the food for hour and put nipple waterer in. BE SURE there is a hole at top of bucket or if a knob it is released. If there is no air in top, it's almost impossible to get water out of nipples. If there is no food to distract them and the old waterer is gone- they all should...

A rooster? And this is NOT a buff Orpington!

[/IMG][/IMG]Pic 1 and Pic 2 show Blue orpingtons. Both 9 weeks old. One looks like it has much bigger wattle and comb. Feet appear to be same size tho. What do you think? Pic 3 and 4 is of a 9 week old chick that I was told is a buff Orpington at week old. I don't think it is. I think it's a...

    Silkie Chicks growth rate

Yes the others are regular chickens. The silkie still looks like a week old regular chicken. I'm glad it grows slower because it's so sweet - just wanted to be sure it's normal!!!

    Silkie Chicks growth rate

I have about 18 chicks that seem to double in size each week. I have 1 silkie( waiting on more) the silkie has not grown much at all in comparison to the others. She eats and drinks and runs around. She is about 3 weeks old and looks like a week old chicken of larger breeds in her size. Should...

I'm already hooked- 13 babies at 5 weeks and making my husband now build a bigger coop already and they are not even in the first one yet! Haha! I'm being proactive for more! I'm with you- I can't eat what I name and take care of!!! Even anonymous chicken dishes make me gag half way through...

New to Raising Chickens but REALLY Excited for This New Adventure!

Funny, I second guess eating chicken too! But if you watch on YouTube how the chicken you eat comes to your table- you won't eat it for awhile!!! I laugh because I was going to start with a couple chickens and ended up with 13 chicks who are now 5 weeks. Now I want another coop and silkies! I...

    Coop secure or not?

A 2 nd exterior run is being built as a second safety around the coop with mesh on that run.

    Coop secure or not?

The mesh is halfway up, figuring the rest of way up is metal as well as roof. We are putting a galvanized roof on top. The only thing that may climb up and get through I guess would be a mouse or Rat. But if chickens are in coop at night- would a rat come out during day to climb coop?

So I picked up my first half of chicks today. The rest tomorrow AM. They are about week and half. QUESTIONs: 1. Do I give them electrolytes in water just because it's new environment if they are drinking and eating fine within the first 20 min? 2. The heat lamp is a light. Will they think...
