One of our chickens is only a couple of months old, the other were not sure as brought her recently and she isn't laying yet so I'd think not very old. The brahma is around 1years old. The coop was a pre built one, the nest box is a little higher than the coop.
It's a funny thing as she never roosts non of our chickens do which is really strange they have two roosting places and use neither we only have a small coop which is enough for the three birds as they roam all day in our garden. It's a difficult thing to judge.
I think we're just going to keep taking her off the nest all day, and blocking it off. She should get the gist of it soon enough. She's even trying to go round the back of the coop to get in. But she hasn't nested outside yet so fingers crossed we've caught it soon enough.
Thank you, we live in a built up area. They usually roam the garden all day at the moment. But I've just gone out there and she has decided to lay on the floor underneath the nest boxes. I will have to do some more reading up I think. Thank you for your help
hi everyone I have a very broody hen and this is our first experience with one. Our coop isn't big enough to do the crate suggestion so we have just been taking her off at around lunchtime and locking off he nest and sleep area. If anyone has any suggestions to help us that would be much...
Hi everyone, I'm exactly experiencing my first broody hen. She will not come off her nest unless we take her off and we don't have a big enough coop to do the crate suggestion. So do I just keep taking her off and blocking off the nest box. I'm just worried if she needs to lay a egg. Any help...
I will get a picture later when i finish work of it in the light. Just to make sure! Thank you for replying to my worries. I hope it's nothing serious!
