Everything has warped on this almost-cardboard box. My husband was meticulous about screwing the coop together. He made sure he did it as best he could so the wood would not crack and split. He worked very hard (6 hours) to level the ground beforehand. Panels were falling off in the first year.
High winds? We have high winds here almost every day. (30-60 mph) Does anyone have this door with a constant wind? I would love to know what you think about how it would hold up to winds? Thanks
I have a 4 year old Barred Rock hen. I have heard her sneeze in the coop a few times here and there since I cleaned it mid February. I have not seen her sneeze outside of the coop. She does not have respiratory symptoms that I can hear or see otherwise. I dewormed (I never saw worms, did it as...
I have 2 LO hens. I've heard they need more protein, not sure how true that is. But it is possible it's helped my hens. I got them from a breeder. One is normal size and the other is smaller than Orpingtons normally are I think but she fluffs out pretty nice. :) Otherwise very healthy.
Until I got my coop fortified a bit for nights, I (ok it was my husband mostly) hauled in our 6 hens each night. We used one of those really big plastic crates. (40 gallon?) I wrapped chicken wire over the top to keep them in it. I put shavings in it and there was enough room for them at night...
See you're all brilliant!
@TalkALittle No, no name, unless I want to call it "water in someone else's field" ;) it was all diverted for others water rights years back. @Frazzemrat1 and @EggyErin very good ideas. Thanks all! More good ones to consider!
Here's another thing I could've added...
Ya'll have such great name suggestions. I am STUMPED on what to name our acreage in particular what to put on our egg cartons when I start selling eggs. Here's some info that may help so there's no "green acres" suggestions. :) Its a semi-arid, mostly treeless area (except for a few in the...
Thanks! I've hear with the metal frame skelters that eggs don't slide down on their own when you take one from the bottom. Do you have to push the eggs down a little or do they go on their own?
The squatter (Ferocious Sparkles is his/her name, I have a 5 yr old who did the naming- can you tell?) is the darkest one in the middle of the 3 (in the single picture, the one looking at me). His/Her comb was red early on, wattles came in big and red.
The one on the left is my second guess...
Howdy!
I'm a first time (adult) chicken owner and I have 6 chickens that are 19 weeks old. I am pretty sure I have at least 1 cockerel (red comb and large red wattles early on) and another that keeps me guessing but I'm pretty sure (even though I purchased them as sexed pullets, I must be pretty...
Pullets or Roo game contestants...
I have 3 silver laced wyandottes, all purchased as pullets. 2 of them I am questioning that they really are pullets. One of them was labeled as a gold laced and she/he clearly is not. 6 weeks old.
I have 2 lavender orpingtons that I purchased straight run...
