    Hen With bloody neck

I will try to get some tomorrow. It’s not an open gaping wound, it’s from being grabbed for breeding. If the vasoline doesn’t work he’s getting separated

    Hen With bloody neck

1 drake six hens. One of the hens has a bloody neck and spends most of the day hiding from the group. Is there anything we can do beside separate. We put a bunch of vasoline on her neck hoping it would slow him down, not sure how that will work. In about 3 months I will be integrating another 12...

Any idea what is wrong with this chick

I have chicks that are 2 weeks old now. Lost one about a week ago, now I have another that is acting strange. It is fluffing its feathers and not moving around much. Poop is fine, craw is empty, doesn't want to eat or drink. No sign of panting or respiratory problems. The the chick that died was...

    Donald!!! - Gone without a trace…

I have three dogs that watch out for land predators but they can't really stop hawks. One of the dogs will jump up at a tree if a hawk lands in it. We put all poultry up at night and watch as carefully as we can in the day. The ducks spend so much time with the dogs that they follow the one dog...

What online hatchery did you buy your ducklings from?

I have bought ducks from Cackle three times and they are great. I have adult Anconas and Kahki Campbells that I got 2 years ago, I get eggs from them everyday. Two of them lay pretty green eggs. I got 2 Blue Swedish a week ago, they are so cute and growing like a weed. I have 8 more ducks coming...

    Cleaning Baby Pool Brooder

We bought 2 clear totes 50 gallon from Walmart and put a door between. I use a dust bin to remove the chips everyday. They have a bowl of dirt with grit, food, water and a little roost made of dowel rod. Having the two totes together makes cleaning easy, we just shoo them into one while cleaning...

    size of heat plate?

I agree, I just got Rentacoop 16x16 for 16 chicks, I don't think 12X12 would work for that many and the price is not that much more to bump up one

Turning heat lamp off for chicks

I would be worried that they ran out water or filled it up with wood chips. We have to change water and add feed twice a day. Also how big of an area are they in, if you have many they will be in pretty dirty conditions within 3 days.

    Heating plate

I bought a couple of the Rentacoop brooder heat plates. I am scared that they will burn their little heads. If I put my hand on it it’s to hot to leave there. I have it raised high enough that they can walk around under, but if I put a thermometer under then it is only 80 degrees which is not...
