    Nest box violence

Hey, Seems to be less fighting now that we've added the third box. I just put a golf ball in each of the two newer boxes. They get used, not as much as the favorite box - they're just finicky like that. I haven't seen any new comb injuries on the one chicken though just scabs. Thanks all!

    Nest box violence

Hi, We have 12 chickens and 2 large nesting boxes with a third on the way. They do use both but of course have a favorite. I have one chicken that does not care about pecking order and will barge in on a higher pecking order bird while in the nest box and is relentless. It won't stop barging in...

    Fowl pox?

Haha! I definitely second guessed myself and ran out to try and wipe it off again but no it doesn't come off.

    Fowl pox?

Hey, Yeah, that's what I thought too and the more BYC posts I read the more nervous I got as people were saying it can start that way. There's also my top pecking order chicken with this yellow crust. Idk I'm getting paranoid lol

    Fowl pox?

Hi, Almost all of my 12 chickens have a tiny black dot or a few on their combs. They tiff a lot so I figured it was pecking injuries. However, now I'm starting to be concerned it could be the start of fowl pox. This is a picture of the worst looking comb

    Chicken question for fun

We just got our first 12 chickens 6 months ago, and I was obsessed before they even arrived! Although, when we got them home as one day olds and I dipped their beaks in the water I was pretty much chicken mom from then on. :)

White spots on comb or just comb

Thank you!! I will try that. They are only almost 6 months old, so I don't think they're molting yet and they just started laying eggs. Their combs are all mixed, some are lighter with lighter faces and flopped and some are bright red and tall with red faces. They've all just started laying...

White spots on comb or just comb

That really didn't help much. I've read all those forums but I can't really tell, didn't seem like mites or anything but I'm new to chicken keeping. Hope someone can give input.

White spots on comb or just comb

Hi, I can't tell if this is a normal comb on my BO or not as far as I've noticed it's always been this way the white isn't actually raised, just the red and it's lighter in color. I read pale combs mean bad health same with white dots so really just wanna check. Thanks!

    Favorite Nesting Box Pecking

Hi, thanks! Both nesting boxes are on the floor and each have curtains. One is newer and less worn (the one they don't like). I can try moving the bullied girl to the other nest though.

    Favorite Nesting Box Pecking

Hi, I'm having trouble finding the answer to this specifically. We have 12 chickens and two of the rollaway nesting boxes that are supposed to each accommodate 20 chickens (they don't). They still favor only one box and we've done the fake balls and they will use the second box on occasion...

Help! Beak injury after raccoon tried to break in

Hey everyone, vet just left. She said it was the beak however it was more superficial than it looked. She cleaned it with what we used earlier and applied surgical glue. It wasn't as expensive as I feared either.. $90 and she did a full exam as well. Looks like little suri is gonna be okay...

Help! Beak injury after raccoon tried to break in

Thanks so much! The vet offered to drive out to the house and I decided to suck up the cost and have them come out. She is my absolute favorite bird so I just would rather find out for sure if its the flesh or beak because I know the quality of life just won't work out if the beak falls off...

Help! Beak injury after raccoon tried to break in

Hello, I posted a previous thread on a minor beak injury. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/injury.1179449/#post-18606622 The same chicken, my favorite, has injured another part of her face /beak I can't tell. We woke up to a raccoon trying to dig in to the coop, it was unsuccessful...

    Minor beak injury

Almost a week later and I think beak is looking a little better. She's loving the mash suggestion but I think she's getting food ok anyway... Just not complaining about a little special treatment.

    Minor beak injury

Hey guys, It's been looking fine but today I went out and noticed it looks.. Shrunk? The top beak isn't folding over the bottom like the other chickens. She's still eating and drinking normal and it's not hugely discolored. I have a picture, please tell me if this is normal or not. Thanks!

    Chicken with one swollen eye

Hey, I'm sorry to tell you but I think those symptoms are different and requires medication /treatment. I saw this thread while searching for my own chicken eye swelling. Mine had no discharge and resolved on its own. Take a look at one of the other threads I found one for you that you might...

    Minor beak injury

Thank you! I think it's good, doesn't look to be broken, hanging or even freyed. More of just a small cut. I really just wanted reassurance from someone more experienced than myself. Thank you so much for your insight and response. I'll keep an eye on her.
