    Flea dust? Mites? Lice?

I have a 2.5yo RIR who seemed very lethargic today, after a closer look, she has what looks like flea dust around her tail feathers. I may have seen a tiny black dot moving but could have been a trick of the eye, not sure. What could it be and how do I get rid of it? Other hens seem happy and...

    enlarged crop, clear vomit, lethargic

Hi all, I have a RIR whos been dumpy/lethargic the past couple days. I chalked it up to heatstroke, and have been administering pedialyte orally and in the flock water. I picked her up and clear thick liquid came out of her mouth and her crop is enlarged, more so than this morning. She is...

    RIR attacked, deep cuts

Hello, I was sure one of my hens was dead when I could not find her yesterday- feathers were everywhere. I found her hiding today with gashes on her back and in rough shape. She has about three cuts, one is especially deep and you can see flesh. None look infected and she seems otherwise in...

    7 wo EE Diarrhea

Hi all - Just purchased 2 7 week old EE pullets on Craigslist and have them quarantined from my flock. They seem like they are doing well, except that they both have loose poops- brownish, no blood. The woman I purchased them from seemed like she maintained her flock well. She was selling the...

    Roost question.

I think flat footed sleeping chickens are the happiest chickens :)

    Roost question.

I would vote differently... Not sure if it matters that much, but it is healthier for chickens to sleep with flat feet. Especially if you have mice/rat issues, the pests will nibble on chicken toes :( Having roosts that allow for flat feet avoid this issue, as well as lets the chickens to "sit"...

    two Americaunas died suddenly!

Thank you all for your responses. I went out to check my new-ish feeder for signs of mold or botulism, and realized that the paper instructions were blocking the fall of feed into the base, where the chickens could eat. I feel like an idiot for not realizing this, and am so so upset with...

Hi all! I have 6 happy pullets that are itching to get into their new coop here in Eastern Massachusetts. I'm raising them organic/non-GMO and am looking for a local brand that makes chicken feed. I used to live in VT and would buy Green Mountain Feed. Does anyone know of any MA or New England...
