Since then, I have been going out with a stick and sticking with the suggestions in those two posts from that link. So far, so good. Surprisingly, he stills moves out of the way when I walk by, so maybe the attack was his way of saying "You are below me." Who knows. All I know is that he will...
Aside from that, something I left out was the fact that Brutus WILL move out of the way when I walk near him. So, ot still makes me wonder if the attack was defensive.
The nest boxes are pretty large, but after the night the hen was killed, Porcia and Brutus prefer not going in there. That is why we plan to relocate the coop and expand it.
The hen has a tendency to lay more than one egg in different locations. So, I move all her eggs to her nesting box lately. She will sit on them, but acts bothered with the coop. We are planning to get an incubator to help with the eggs whilst we rebuild the coop and relocate it. Either that, or...
Yup! We have a cozy little coop for them with a little nesting house that has a perch.
The night the hen was killed, we locked the door to the coop, and made sure everything was good to go. We think it may have been a smaller animal, as whatever it was somehow managed to get inside. We found a...
With me being the oldest of my siblings, they are quite younger than me ranging from 1 - 13. However, the younger children stay away from the rooster. My siblings (the ones ranging in agr from 6 - 13) try to help care for the chickens, but tend to fawn over the rooster and his hen a bit too much...
Definitely understandable. My siblings are very careless when it comes to the rooster. They mind him and his hen aren't rough around them, but they are careless in the sense they don't realize that the roo and hen aren't like pets - they don't like being treated as a person would treat their pet...

He is definitely over a year old, but I believe he is a mixed breed (just not sure of what he is mixed between, exactly)
Him and I never had a problem until a year ago when I was cleaning the chicken coop. I picked up a pine cone and he jumped at my arm into me. That was the first time he ever...
Heya, everyone!
So, it is official! I had my first attack by mister Brutus today in a LONG time. Honestly, I am not sure what could have provoked him to do so.
I am the treat-giver, basically. I feed them, give them water, clean their little nesting area, and so forth. Wherever I go, they...
Possibly. It drives me a bit crazy not knowing exactly what breed he is! Since he is most likely mixed, it makes me wonder if there are other people who have chickens just like Brutus.
Thanks! Brutus is quite the model in our neighborhood!
Now that it is being pointed out to me, and looking up the two breeds you named, he very well could be a mix between those two breeds. I am not sure where my grandfather got him from, but I believe the person was a breeder.
I was thinking that he may be mixed, but I wasn't too sure. My dad said he was an English Bantam, which I did research on and concluded that Brutus is definitely not an English Bantam.
Hello everyone! So, for a while now, I've struggled to find exactly what breed my rooster is.
We got him from my grandfather after he was being picked on by the other rooster and he eventually grew pretty large once we took him home. He was docile at first, but then became pretty aggressive at...
