I definitely have landed on the Polish as the father. The Favorelle was a HUGE yellow chick - and this one is super tiny and also resembles the silkie chicks a bit. But, the egg could have been the Favorelle's because it was sort of a pinkish color.
OK I am changing my guess! I didn't realize my silkie lays eggs that color - AND this is a SMALLER chick than the rest, AND both the daddy and mommy have 5 toes, and the leg color has dark grey in it...so my official new guess is Silkie Polish! I'm so excited I can't wait to see what she looks...
The egg looks lighter than it was originally... None of my chocolate layers have really dark eggs. From all the evidence so far I'm leaning towards Polish FBC Maran cross. http://www.fresheggsdaily.com/2012/08/french-black-and-blue-copper-marans.html?m=1

Ok great ideas thank you! I could also sell the older (by almost a year) fullbreeds pretty easy as layers, they are mostly chocolate, olive and blue layers... if I have to make room. Roos will have to go though. Oh hell Wtf was I thinking...
I would think early incubated eggs may still sink...at what stage of development or age do eggs tested with "the float test" no longer pose false negative results? I have several that are low floaters meaning they sit upright on the bottom...
I uh... 'accidentally' let my 2 broody hens sit on a few eggs just to see what happened. Well, theirs were the popular nest boxes so before I could blink each was sitting on a dozen eggs. Today, 2 hatched and one pipped. I hurriedly moved them to a safe, large brooder I situated to be warm for...
They are economical because they can be restuffed with the same material after washing and the curtains keep the warmer in the winter so less heating needed too :) I haven't bought straw since the spring!
I hate to say this but do you know how to put him out of his misery fast? I suggest you put him out of his misery - he is suffering. I've had to do this after attack, FAST. I just step on their head and pull up on the body and the head comes right off. Sorry you are going through this -

I also have a...
I have several chickens that were hatched in February/March timeframe and need new homes. All were hand-reared and are used to be held by my 5 year old daughter who holds them daily. That doesn't mean they run up to her (unless she has treats) but they are pretty docile when caught. All were...
