Pea Comb x Single Comb and got a Buttercup Comb?

As the title says I bred a rooster with what I believe to be a Pea Comb with a hen with a Single Comb and one of the offspring has a Duplex Single Comb. I am 100% certain this is the pair that produced the offspring because they've been in the same breeding pen together for well over a month...

I was about to pitch 6 eggs that are on day 24 of incubation, but when I candled, 4 were still moving! So I put them back in the incubator. I am fearful of opening it again, but am unsure how long to wait! Should I poke a safety hole? How do I know when they’re internally pipped without...

Discrepancy in Govee vs Elekcity Laser

I trust my Govee as I have calibrated it with several other thermometers, and I don't exactly trust my Elekcity infrared thermometer. However, I'm still worried that when I temp the eggs specifically it usually reads around 102-103 even if the ambient is 99.3. I just need a few words to calm...

Experiences using Muscovy Ducks as Broodies

I have a broody Muscovy and some chicken eggs I intend to hatch, but am a little wary about letting her hatch the eggs. I've heard Scovies make great broodies, but this is my first year with them, and will be this girls first clutch. Can I trust her to hatch the eggs? Has anyone had any...

Which Hygrometer / Thermometer is Best?

I realize there are older threads asking the same question, but what does everyone use these days? Is there one that is accurate enough for incubation but not way over budget? I would love to hear some opinions as I need to replace my old hygro-thermometer this year. I was using a Govee and...

    Thüringian/Thuringian

Crests verses Tassels - What's going on Genetical

Are there different genetics that govern crests and tassels? Crest like that on a Polish, and tassels, like on a Crested Legbar. Does this have to do with comb type, or some other combination or genes or is it two different genes? I know it's not simply dominance, because Crested Legbars breed...

Ive recently been noticing it seems one of my cockerels has significantly larger feathers on his back. I’m curious to hear other opinions? Is this within the range of normal? This is the cockerel in question. These two on the other hand look more normal to me.
