I have 10+- guineas 8 months old in South Polk County, Central FL if anyone's interested in the area. Pearl Greys, light blues, Royal Purple, and pieds. Price negotiable.
I've eaten guinea. Recently dressed a couple of the male guineas, approx. 7 months old, and the one we've eaten was really good. Fixed guinea and dumplings and it was enjoyed by all who tasted it. Mostly dark meat with the breast meat a little lighter than rest. Definitely more robust flavor...
These two that I processed cuts my flock down to 25.
Thought I could sell some of them.
Had some friends ask about them, Sent word two weeks ago that I would take $5. apiece for up to 12 of them and no response.
I'll process more of them to reduce flock before I lower price any more.
The "guinea & dumplings" were good.
Richer flavor than chicken and more dark meat. The breast was about as dark as the lightest streak of white or light meat on a chicken thigh.
A lot of yellow fat that I skimmed off the stock.
I can definitely find a place for them in our food chain & I...
The guineas I hatched on March 26, 2010 started laying at 100 days, that's 3 months and 10 days. They layed about 100 eggs and haven't layed since Sept. 3. I have 27 birds total, not sure how many hens. I turned them out to free range a three quarter acre garden area on Sept. 1st and they...
I incubator hatched 27 guineas of 6 or 7 different colorage (new word) and have probably got 100 eggs from them. They started laying at 100 days. Those very first eggs were the size of quail eggs.
Double yolks must be fairly common. My girls are only five months old and of the 100+ eggs we've gotten so far, there have been at least a dozen double yolks. Their eggs are still small, even for guineas, but those double yolks are still egg-citing to find.
I used cattle panels on my hoop coop and had good results using cable clamps to join the panels side by side. Don't see why you couldn't join panels end to end and overlap two or three sections of each panel and use clamps at the ends of each panel at least.
As for shade, I've had guineas all...
It might go down as lauren said (broody #2's clutch hatching first), or Broody #1's hatching first and her abandoning her own clutch. Either way, the incubator standing by will solve that problem as (or if) it develops.
My flock was hatched March 25, 2010 and at least some of them have been laying for a month. They were just over 100 days when I started finding eggs on the ground in their hoop coop. I've been getting five or six eggs a day this past week.
My Mother used to tell me this story;
She was born in Central FL in the mid-1920's and was raised on a farm during the depression. When the she and her sisters got bored, they would make a hole in a kernel of corn, tie a string to the kernel and throw it down with more corn for the chickens...
These sure are laying first year. There's nobody else in the hoop coop but the brood I hatched in late March. These were the first eggs I could find showing fertility in late February, in California and Maryland.
There's some French from Maryland and powder blue (not sure what color they're...
Another tiny egg in the "hoop coop" this morning. Two "first eggs" within a week. They're 110 days old today.
My question now, will same hen lay more than one small egg before settling in laying guinea sized eggs ?
I tend to believe these eggs might be from different hens, I think first one was...

I was quite surprised (and pleased) to find a quarter sized egg in the guinea hoop coop this afternoon. They're 107 days old and somebody's already laying.
I ordered French Guinea eggs from a gentleman in Maryland advertising on Eggbid.com back in late April. Incubated them with a double order of mixed color regular size guineas from a lady in California off of Ebay. Experienced an overall 60% hatch on March 25 and now at 90+ days the French are...
Not really meant to be warm until arriving at incubator. Most instructions say to store fertile eggs that you are going to set or incubate at 55-60* turning twice daily until desired quantity is assembled, but hopefully not over nine days.
