Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

Thanks. QUOTE="debid, post: 18587535, member: 77440"]Well, you have one cuckoo that looks male (the first) and two that look female. The rest, you'll need to wait a while, yet. BTW, next time you take pictures, a side profile is best with no hands in the way. Thanks. The first one I think is...

Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

I ="ftfarmer22, post: 16859920, member: 405560"]Hello! I decided to start another thread on helping all you back yard chicken farmers determine the sex of your chicken. I know it can sometimes be super tricky to identify gender in chicks, so that's why we made this thread! No need to start your...

Using the EcoGlow 20 Chick Brooder - Brinsea

Well, I moved them out to the big girl coop yesterday. They are OK but don't seem happy with me. When I go in to visit they don't want to come by me like they did indoors. They huddle up. They do eat and drink but almost seem mad at me. Is that even possible? After work we'll go visit again...

    Field Trip to the run

Our fenc Oh goodness! At least you know they like you! hahaha Our fence is 6 feet high and covered in hardware cloth. I am going to put that deer netting over the top for now but they won't be in the run unless we are home! I just can't seem to get them to come to me, even with treats, when...

    Field Trip to the run

We have been doing field trips too. Mine were 4 weeks old yesterday! The plan is to move them out tomorrow. This weekend looks really warm so the coop won't be as cold as it has been. I've read to leave them in the coop for a few days so they know where to come back to. Is that how you all do it...

    Taming Chicks

In the picture just over 3 weeks. They will be 4 this Wednesday. We are aiming for late this week to move them outside to stay! Yesterday they were out almost all day. The don't get that they can go in and out of the coop to the run. We had to move them from one to the other and they didn't like...

Pouring with rain, soggy drenched yard, annoyed chickens

I have a large dog kennel that I have wrapped in hardware cloth. I'm wondering if anyone else has used a kennel and how you were able to pred. proof the large gaps around the door? What did you use for a roof? Ours is odd shaped so the typical kennel roof won't work. THANKS

Using the EcoGlow 20 Chick Brooder - Brinsea

We have been out a couple times. As soon as it dries they will be out today. Going to try the coop first with open door so they can go in and out! Hope to train them to come in when called.

Using the EcoGlow 20 Chick Brooder - Brinsea

Thanks! We're hoping to finish up predator proofing today and having them out for the day. The weather looks ok for tonight but the next couple nights are 40ish, then back into the 50s. Like, I said, Wednesday is 4 weeks so I'm going to shoot for late this week to make the permanent transition...

Using the EcoGlow 20 Chick Brooder - Brinsea

I've been watching them at night and the last couple nights they didn't use their heater at all. It's roughly 70 in the house, this morning I checked the coop and it too was 70 but some nights it gets to about 50. I've read people saying to wait for full feathers and they aren't quite there yet...

    Taming Chicks

So true. Inside we have a front door instead of the top and they leap out to visit! Just started taking them outside and they love it!

    Taming Chicks

Ours loved our finger tips dipped in yogurt! The first couple weeks they liked to look at us and we would hold them but once we started the treats they started to come running and if the door is open they jump right out and climb all over us! (so much so I can't open the door alone any more in...

Australorp Pride! Let's see those pics!

We went outside yesterday for a couple hours. They loved it! Dirt baths, bugs, and time to climb all over us! Quick question, the only way I can tell the australorps apart is one has a solid black beak while the other has half yellow and half black. Will it stay that way?

45 degrees too cold at night for 8 week old chickens?

I use a heat plate too. My girls will mostly sleep in front of it. Some nights they snuggle up in the furthest corner away from the heater. They will be 4 weeks old soon. The bedroom they are in is around 70. We're starting to warm up here and should be in the 40s to 50s at night. Not quite...

Help with chicken coop and run

We are still in the process of putting up the hardware cloth around our run. I love how you're testing yours. I'll have to try that. Yesterday we took the girls out in the run for a couple hours. Once they got a little more used to it they seem to love it! The had baths and bugs and even some...

    Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Going to let the chick's have a field trip outside for a bit. Hopefully it goes better than last time! Plenty warm out!

Using the EcoGlow 20 Chick Brooder - Brinsea

Thanks so much! They are in my spare bedroom and it gets pretty warm in there. Last night they all slept in front of the heater again but not under it. I have a camera in there so I check on them without disturbing them. The brooder has three solid sides and one open side. Maybe I should open...

Using the EcoGlow 20 Chick Brooder - Brinsea

I feared using the lamps so I got the EcoGlow. It's been great that the girls get normal light cycles. They know when it's bed time and are quiet all night! I read some place that chicks that use these types of heaters tend to not use them as long. My girls are 3 weeks old. One day after a short...
