Can a serama rooster mate with a standard hen?

A few months ago we got two seramas, one of which is a cockerel who is about 9 months. He’s started mounting the rest of our 7 layers, but the Australorp is his favorite. I’ve seen him try several times, but is it actually possible for them to mate successfully? I don’t intend on breeding but I...

    Worms! Again?

Hi everyone. Today I was in my coop when I noticed some poop with worms in it. They’re very white, with distinct heads and what looks to be possible eyespots, though it’s hard to see. I just wormed my birds about a month before this, doing 2 rounds as directed on the bottle. The kind that I use...

Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat - Part 2 : Chicken Boogaloo.

I've had at least 3 people ask how chicken eggs are fertilized. The same way any other animal's eggs are of course, but they thought the rooster sat on the eggs after they were laid to fertilize

lump on left side of chest

A full crop is a sign that they are eating normally, unless their breath smells fermented. Edit: fermented breath smell is NOT normal. Sorry about the mistake

lump on left side of chest

That’s called the crop, it’s the organ that stores food! In the morning they should be empty before they eat and full at night when they go to sleep.

Breeds and genders: what are they?

Not sure about the breeds, but I can answer one question for you still. An Easter Egger is an Ameraucana mix. They look similar and EEs still have the trait that lays multicolored eggs. Ameraucanas are harder to come by and a lot of the time they’re mixed up and you’ll end up with an EE instead.

    Is this stuff normal????

Feed stores and online sell leg bands that make it so you can tell them apart safely. That’s what I used for my RIR hens.
