Congrats that the little guy seems to be holding his own for now and appears to be doing well! You have a really kind heart and are obviously very caring and nurturing!! I wish you the best of luck!
OK, so I went to let out the hens and realized one of our 2 yr old light brahmas was making what sounds like a high pitched sneeze. She'd shake her head a bit with each one and was doing it almost in a hiccup like pattern if that makes sense lol! We let her out and she seems ok...not making the...
I just realized I have been posting here and there for a while and haven't really introduced myself! Actually, I've been here on and off a few times over the years and just LOVE it! This is an amazing sight! MY name is Lori and I live in Nh with my 2 kids (a boy aged 8 and a girl aged 5)...
Thats so devastating...and SCARY! My heart goes out to that family! My husband and I live in fear of that happening also. We have our chicks in a giant plastic tub with a secure rigid wire mess lid on top on it (the heavy duty kind used on terrariums). We have the cage off the bulb and have the...
Sooo Sorry it took me 2 thousand years to respond! I really appreciate the advice! Its so funny..I met muscovies for the first time at the zoo in Buenos Aires (we were there a few weeks back ). They were so neat looking and seemed very gentle. I heard they do not need a lot of water (like a...
LOLOL...Right before I read this my son came in and announced "OMG..you should see how the little guy is doing! He's pecking at the other chicks and bossing THEM around lol! " Guess he doesn't know he's small
Thanks you guys! I feel a lot better about it now ) The little guy seems to be holding his own so far. Also, Its good to know that if they are raised together as chicks..its sets them up to get a long well as adults. He just looks so tiny in there next to the standards lol
Hi! The family is very excited that our newest members of the flock have arrived today...5 standard sized (australorp, 2 aracaunas, RR red, and a Barred rock), and an unexpected white Japanese Banty. The store I got them from only had a few of them and they were mixed w/ the standards. A few...
Hi! I have a few questions about my little male black east indie/call cross (chick-A-duck is his name). We only have him..no other ducks right now. Hes about 5 yrs old or so. For the past few years he has stayed with our hens (despite how messy he is with the water!!). He follows them...
lol, I was just researching this topic today in order to find out about my black east indie cross.. this was a pretty helpful link for me...maybe it will help you as well??? http://www.hobbyfarms.com/livestock-and-pets/duck-life-span.aspx
Thank you so much everybody! You really helped to make me feel a lot better....I appreciate the advice, the sympathy, encouragement and comfort.
3goodeggs....Thanks so much for that!! YOu really helped me. Well, I just got off the phone 30 minutes ago after placing an order for 5 more...
Hi! Thanks for your concern Sadly, the second one died last week ( As it turns out, it looks like the 2 illnesses were unrelated. We think our australorp got into a biunch of foam insulation that was in her temp winter coop wall (they somehow got to a panel and they had a feeding frenzy...
Thank you very much for your sympathy and support. Its such a blow to lose 2 faves so close together...and to lose one of them to something like this..... Despite their sadness, The kids have already asked if we can get a few new chicks in the spring...this certainly hasn't discouraged their...
First off I want to thank everyone for all their support and advice.....it really helped me through this! Sadly, our hen Marie died in the night. We determined she did not die of the same illness her friend died of last month. We are pretty sure She died from a blockage in her intestine. I have...
How do you check thoroughly?? I was in there earlier and all I felt was a wide open empty area that was very fluidy...I felt nothing else.....BUT, it was my first time really checking. As I was in there she was very unhappy and kept frantically pushing.
Thanks!! I'll try that!
OK...went and put a bit more prep-H and checked inside her again...she was straining so hard it was just awful! Felt lots of the gravely stuff and also very gently pulled out what appears to be a piece of light colored hardish rubbery stuff...along with a bit more of...
Thanks very much! I really am frustrated with my heated waterer (omg..it IS such a pain to fill!) because it seems almost like anything that gets in there stays at just the right temp to breed bacteria. I have it raised up so that the duck cannot climb into it and the chickens can't kick stuff...
I don't have a lot of good advice, but i just wanted to let you know i know how you feel..i am going through something similar with one of my hens right now.. I hope she feels better. Sounds like you are doing everything you can.
I just wanted to add that a few years back I had a hen that...
Sounds like a good idea! hmmmmm...I just looked up laxatives for chickens and I saw something about molasses mixed in water..not clear on the amount you put in the water though. Also...I read about castor oil being used ..1/2 oz per chicken. Has anybody else heard this?? Also...does anybody know...
