Hi! The family is very excited that our newest members of the flock have arrived today...5 standard sized (australorp, 2 aracaunas, RR red, and a Barred rock), and an unexpected white Japanese Banty. The store I got them from only had a few of them and they were mixed w/ the standards. A few were not doing well...stressed from shipping. I decided I HAD to get one of them (one of the ones that appeared to be fine) and figure I'll hope for the best in terms of an outcome. He (or she) is in with the rest of them but I am worried because hes soooo tiny! The others keep knocking him over and hes been stepped on..and even was pecked a few times (but only mildly). I tried separating it into a smaller enclosure within the larger one but he was very upset and the others kept pecking the side of the container. I added 1 standard sized w/ him and it didn't help so I just put him back with the rest. Is it safe??? The others are super active and robust. The Banty is eating/drinking and acting ok except that he is a little quieter and appears a bit more stressed from the trip than the others....any suggestions??
