Feet swelling develop in into sores and necrosis

There is mice around but no rats. The hen does sleep in a dog crate on the ground and sometimes the chicks sleep with her. The mice could possibly bite them maybe? Never had that problem before. And no, I do not have traps out. The pen is about 60 x 40, with an 8ft chain link fence around it...

Feet swelling develop in into sores and necrosis

Hello everyone! I read most of the threads about feet and toes necrosis and could not find exactly what my issue might be. I have 1x 1 year old hen and 3x 3 month old chicks that have various degrees of a developing necrosis on their feet. See pictures. In the 3rd pic, it starts with...

    Over-enlarged crop

The pics don't really do it justice, but you can the the line of her crop sticking out. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. I did massage her this morning and it is full in there. I suspect she might have been eating hay like crazy... but I still cannot smell sour crop smell. I'll keep...

    What breed is this?

I wouldn't be able to tell from here but usually roosters start getting bigger then all their other buddies after about 1-2 months. You'll know soon enough if he starts calling ;) and you're right, she is beautiful... Wyandotte or otherwise. Since the seller was selling Wyandotte, I agree with...

    What breed is this?

She has Ameraucana body colors but her head is like an Australops. I have 6 Ameraucanas and two have a dark head and neck but the colors blend naturally, yours is like two chicken types in one....not trying to insult you or your chicken :) I am almost inclined to say she's a mix. But looking...

    Sudden onset of sickness

Hi, I had something similar happen to one of my chickens when they were about that age, but she lived a few more months after the gasping for air episode. From what we could find it was maybe a upper respiratory fungus that she contracted. See the link attached it might be a good start. That...

    Over-enlarged crop

It a huge bulge, most chickens look fairly normal with a full crop but this almost look like an appendage. More to follow.

    Size of meal worms

Hi, not at all... they can injest foods of considerable size. As an aside, I would caution feeding chicken carcasses. They can injest a half decent size bone which I am not overly willing to find out if they can digest it or pass it. Hope this answers your question.

    Over-enlarged crop

Good day everyone, has anyone seen an over-enlarged crop? I have an ameracauna whose crop is really big. She does not seem to have sour crop and she's eating just fine. No signs of lethargy... just a really big crop. I'll upload a picture tomorrow... Thank you for the help,

Injured leg leading to lethargic chicken

Sad to report she did not make it through the night. Still no idea what happened. Maybe fungus? Who knows.

Injured leg leading to lethargic chicken

Furthermore, her comb used to be nice and red. When I picked her up from the coop floor, it was going pink/whitish and now it is turning purple. She seems to have difficulty breeder and she is really lazy to drink the water/vitamins I am force feeding her. Worry not, I only give approx 1/4 cc at...

Injured leg leading to lethargic chicken

Good day everyone, I have a Black Sex link who stared limping about 4-5 days ago. I noticed the was brooding for a couple of days... and at 8 months old... she should not be I don't think. She could not put any weight on it. I out her on the floor of the brooder morning of second day for her to...

blood and poop out of hen butt

Wow... just realized my spelling of syringe is less than desirable lol. In my defense... English is not my first language. ;) There is a fair bit of redness in the area. I would monitor that over the next few days and see if it gets worst. Taking pictures of it a few times a day might help. If...

blood and poop out of hen butt

Are you force feeding her water? Or better yet, water with vitamins and electrolyte? I know you said she was eating on her own but it doesn't hurt. I force feed with a serindge even though most think it's very dangerous... and you know what? They are absolutely right, it is... but that's the...

blood and poop out of hen butt

No scrubbing.... there should not be any need for that... that tissue is fairly delicate... other than rinsing and a gentle rub with your fingers if there is anything stuck to it... that's all the scrubbing I would do... my hand are rough so my wife takes on that job ;)

blood and poop out of hen butt

For example, the cut on my hand got a little infected. The rest of my hand looks fine, but as you get closer to the scratch, it gets redder and redder. So look at the tissue and see what appears to be normal tissue and if there is any discoloration anywhere. The infection site will have more...

blood and poop out of hen butt

Might be stating the obvious but the tissue should appear healthy. Infection would be would have a darker shade of red, maybe white pearcing through (which would be puss). Kinda like a cut on your hand or finger that gets infected and takes a long time to heal. Maybe take a pic and we can take...

blood and poop out of hen butt

My opinion? Keep pushing it back in... and sit with her for a bit... having it in is much better for the tissue as it uses internal fluids to keep moist. Direct air contact is the enemy no matter how much ointment you put on. Tissue necrosis is not good (usually black dying tissue). If she has...
