because of a lack of flock raiser in my area I feed my 9 week old ducks and geese layer crumble and they love it, when their feeder is empty they don't hesitate to let me know. I am curious if the higher calcium is bad for them, but for the last 3 weeks they have grown up healthy and have a TON...
That is exactly what I have been doing at around the same time every morning (difference being I TRY to go back to sleep, haha). My Pekin unfortunately wont keep her yapper shut even though she has food and water and all the freedom a duck could ever want. at least she is cute, and that is all...
I'm glad to hear that there is the possibility that she will quiet down when she starts to lay. But since they are 2 months old today It will be a while. I will however be build a night pen for the "couple" on Monday or Tuesday. I'm hoping that if I pair them up separately from the others...
No joke I almost got the "Duct tape" this morning to make her shut up, but I came to my senses halfway through the hall and decided I would try this diplomatically before going to extremes, haha.
That was my thought as well, I am thinking of building daisy and donald their own house to sleep in, how big should it be if they are only in their from lets say 10 pm until 8 am?
OK I was just joking about the Muzzle.... Anyways My Pekin female "Daisy" is waking me up at the crack of (5am) and is about as noisy as she can until around 8am, after that she is fine. I am trying to find a way to quiet her down so the neighbors can sleep, but more importantly so I can sleep...

but if you really think about it how warm can mama keep them??? they are in temps way lower than mid 60's, and if you could get their opinion in the matter i'm positive they are happier outside!
btw how do you keep them inside until feathered????? that would be awfully smelly.
I put mine outside in a secured shed at 2 weeks old and they did fine, just give them enough protection from wind and rain and they should be just fine. IMO they would be outside alot earlier than that if they were wild so why not in captivity.
Well I only built the pen today. There is also chicken wire backing it the trellis, otherwise i'm not sure it would be strong enough. This just gives the 2 flocks a bit of privacy.
Hey everyone, so I finished the new duck pen where they will be spending the nights. It currently only has on dog house but I plan on getting at least one more. They are all 5 weeks today and getting HUGE!!! (I know I say that every time)...... Anyways hope you like the new setup!
Here is...
good idea! I think I may start doing that. now could I "Cut" the grower with the layer feed that I have like 2/3 grower to 1/3 layer? or is that too much calcium for my ducks and geese? i have 2 full bags and the chickens could care less for it, and also don't want them just sitting around.
So all of my animals share a free ranging area (my backyard). however I can't seem to keep my chickens from eating all of my ducks feed. They seem to prefer the grower feed from their own layer feed. My chickens are around a year old and the ducks and geese are all 5 weeks old. They need to...
I hate to say it but it sounds to me as if F & W runners have this problem quite often. it happened to mine a couple weeks ago and unfortunately came on so fast and got so bad that I had to put her down. I have heard it could be a thiamine deficiency, as well as a bacterial infection. If you...
I must say I think you are over thinking the problem. if they live next to each other they should be fine since they know who each other are. Just let them out one day and see what happens. Chances are that they will be fine and the runners will stay clear of your geese.
